J.A. McDONALD (Lawyer) County Judge, Henderson Co. Athens, Texas
July 9/17
Hon. J. C. JONES, Com Pensions, Austin Texas,
Dear Sirs:
Find inclosed herewith, application Mrs. Susan E. LEWIS, for widiows pension under her deceased husband, J. D. LEWIS.
Her proof of service is alright, I believe.
As to her property:-There is an estate of 300 acres of land the same being community property of herself and deceased husband. They have several children and of course, 1/2 of the land belongs to apllicant. One of her sons resides with her on the old homstead looks after her business and renders the property not in her name at all, but in his own name. It is rendered on the county Assessment rolls at $1890 Dollars total; one half of which or hers would amount to $945 Dollars. Hence it would seem she does not own property sufficient to put her out of the pale of drawing a pension. Yours truly, J. A. McDONALD Co. Judge.
