Comments: Samuel T. Owen , brother John B. Owen and brother-in-law
Kindred Karter Knight led a caravan of covered wagons to Henderson county
in 1851.Inspired by the beauty of the area, they cancelled their plans to
the Calif. gold fields, settled here and built a log cabin church. Thomas
Britton was the first pastor. Samuel Owen was elected Chief Justice of
Henderson county and served in 1853, 1853 and 1854.He was a former member
of the Al Legislature.He and wife Sarah (Sallie)Knight Owen were the
parents of 12 children, all except daughter Julia made the trip to Texas.
Samuel served briefly in the Indian Creek War in Alabama 1836. Samuel was
one of 8 children born to David and Mary Harris Owen.
