Comments: In December 1869, a wagon train from Perry Co., AL, containing
the extended James Madison SHELBY family arrived in Smith Co., TX, where
the SHELBY family helped found the first Presbyterian Church in Smith
Co., TX.
In 1884, James Madison SHELBY was one of the co-founders of Morrison
Chapel (LaRue), Henderson Co., TX.
In the early 1890’s, Amanda Ann Henderson SHELBY donated two acres of
land for Shelby Chapel and Cemetery.
