Comments: BOTH DURHAM AVANT AND HIS SON ARE BURIED IN THE TOOL CEMETERY.
DURHAM WAS THE FIRST BURIAL AT TOOL CEMETERY. BOTH HAVE HISTORICAL
MARKERS THERE.
THE AVANT FAMILY IS ENUMERATED IN THE 1850 CENSUS OF HENDERSON COUNTY. IT
IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT DURHAM WAS GRANTED A LEAGUE AND LABOR OF LAND
ON 26 OCT 1835 "SITUATED WEST OF THE TRINITY RIVER AND ON THE COMANCHE
TRACE LEADING FROM THE KEECHIE [KICHAI] VILLAGE" WHICH IS NOW IN
LIMESTONE COUNTY. HE APPEARS ON THE 1835 NACODOCHES CENSUS RESIDING "FROM
WEST TO ANGELINE RIVER".
