Cincinnati Post Cincinnati, Ohio Aug. 23, 1882 A negro at Athens, Tex., went fishing with a man named Lightfoot, part of whose farm he rented. Subsequently the negro was found dead in the creek bearing indications of foul play. Lightfoot is suspected. Rockford Journal Rockford, Illinois Aug. 26, 1882 The body of a negro who rented a farm near Athens, Tex., and raised a fine crop, was found headless and handless, with three bullet-holes in the cranium. It is supposed the landlord, named Lightfoot, killed the negro to get possession of the crop. |
