Catholic Church at Malakoff Dedicated

Athens, Texas, Feb 26, 1927

The new Catholic Church erected in the new addition to Malakoff was dedicated by Father O'Brien of Chicago and Bishop Lynch of Dallas. Its membership is made up mostly of Mexicans who work in the mines there and for the Texas Power and Light Company.
Father O'Brien preached the dedfcatory sermon and also had contributed several thousand dollars toward the erection of the building. Bishop Lynch gave an address, followed by a bishop from Fort Worth who spoke in Spanish. Mass was observed and the bishop sprinkled the holy water and consecrated the building.
This is the first Catholic Church to be erected in Henderson County.
