History of the Myrtle Springs Cemetery

 

Myrtle Springs Cemetery sits on the 1848 family farm of Ashley Oliver, whose great grandparents, great great grandparents, 3rd great grandparents and 4th great grandparents are buried there. They do the upkeep on the cemetery. This land was registered in 2004 as an historic family farm in Texas, having been in the family for over 100 years. This cemetery has over 130 marked burials with over 112 unmarked burials. Families buried here are: Barr, Bass, Boles, Bristow, Cook, Dickerson, Dixon, Dunklin, Ellis, Evans, Gauntt, Harden, Hardin, Harrell, Hill, Holder, Ingram, Lamb, Lindsey, Masters, May, Petrey, Phillips, Prescott, Pruit, Ray, Roberts, Schaefer, Smith, Stokes, Swift, Tarrant, Taylor, Tucker, Vandiver, Walker, Weaver, Wessiner, Wood, Woods, Wright, Wylie.

Directions to Cemetery

Located near the Fincastle Community of Henderson Co., Tx. Take Highway 175 from Athens to LaRue. Turn on SSR 60 Loop and go until you reach County Road 4343. Follow CR 4343 until you reach County Road 4346. Turn left and go until it dead ends into County Road 4336. Turn right and follow. Cemetery is on left hand side of CR 4336.
