Malakoff News 18 April 2003 Onie Carroll Gunnels Services for Onie Carroll Gunnels, 89 of Trinidad, were at 2 p.m. April 12 at the Lakeside Baptist Church with Brothers Floyd Loven, Frank Upchurch and Ron Huckabee officiating. Interment followed at Mankin Cemetery under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff. Mrs. Gunnels was born June 20, 1913 in Brownsboro to the late Samuel and Lenny Rogers Carroll and passed away April 9, 2003 in Athens. She was a member of Lakeside, was a housewife and a homemaker and raised ten children. She had worked for Texas Power and Light and was also a seamstress for many years at the Corsicana Hat Factory. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She lived her life for others, her philosophy for life and she taught her children to do unto others as you would have them do unto you! She was so loved by everyone who knew her and will be so missed. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister and by spouse, Barney Gene Gunnels in 1988. Survivors include her sons and wives, Gene and Goldie Gunnels, Jr., of Malakoff; J.W. and Nell Gunnels of Trinidad; Bob Gunnels and Wanda of Kemp; Roy and Stacy Gunnels of College Station and Rick and Pam Gunnels of Magnolia; daughters and husbands, Marie and John Payne of Seven Points; Barbara and Clyde Tyer of Vivian, LA; H. Joy and Ken Stone of Lake Fork; Irma Nicholas of Mesquite and Carol and Shorty Trussell of Athens; 21 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Keith Tyer, Bobby Gunnels, Billy Pippen, Mark Tinney, Todd Gunnels, Joey Snowden, Louie Carroll, Matt Tinney and Billy Gunnels. Honorary Pallbearers were her grandsons, great grandchildren and nephews.
