Athens Daily Review Obituaries -- Placed 11-12-2002 Jesse Lee Gunnels Services for Jesse Lee Gunnels, 89, of Malakoff are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Malakoff with Buddy Hazell and Harold Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Mankin Cemetery under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff. Mr. Gunnels died Nov. 11, 2002, in Malakoff. He was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Navarro County to Abijaha E. 'Gene' Gunnels and Nancy Isabelle Miller Gunnels. Mr. Gunnels was a resident of Henderson County since his early childhood. He was actively involved in cattle ranching. He was also a retired school bus driver for Malakoff ISD and served on the Mankin Cemetery Association for 22 years. He was also previously a member of Providence Baptist Church in Tool for many years and was active at Parkview Baptist Church for several years. At the time of his death, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Malakoff. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; six brothers; and one infant daughter, Jessye. Mr. Gunnels is survived by his wife of 68 years, Maudine Terry Gunnels; sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Barbara Gunnels of Crescent Heights, Richard and Glenda Gunnels of Paris and Randy and Peggy Gunnels of Trinidad; daughter and son-in-law, Callie and Mickey Simmons of Trinidad; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Bobby Joe Gunnels, Barney Gene Gunnels, Freddie Colvin, Richard Martin, Justin Gunnels and Clay Haggard. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Gunnels, Leonard McClendon, Richards Taaffe, Rollen Robertson, Lulu Hazell and Virginia Robertson. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
