Crash Injuries Claims Life of W. J. Dosser  1894 - 1941

Walter Jackson Dosser, 48, well-known farmer and landowner of the Turkey Creek community, 
died Sunday evening, August 10, 1941, at 8 pm at the Wolfe-Duphorne hospital here from injuries 
suffered in an automobile accident on the Palestine highway near Athens early on the morning of 
Tuesday, August 5th.
Dosser, who suffered internal injuries when the car in which he was riding overturned, had been a 
patient at the hospital since the morning of the accident.  The accident occurred when J. R. Willis, 
the driver, lost control of the vehicle when he suffered an appendicitis attack.  Willis now is convalescing 
from his operation.  He had escaped with only minor injuries when the car overturned.
Funeral services for Mr. Dosser were held at 3:30 pm Monday afternoon at the First Methodist Church in 
Malakoff with interment following in the Malakoff Cemetery.  The rites were conducted by the Rev. Bill 
Dickinson, Methodist Pastor at Malakoff, and the Rev. Pulley, well-known Minister from Trinidad.   
Carroll_Lehr Funeral Home of Athens was in charge of the burial rites.
The deceased is survived by his wife, Clara Clay (Hinton) Dosser and six children, as follows.;  
Aaron Dosser, U. S. Army, now in Louisiana; Mrs. Dewey (Juanita) Christopher, Athens;  
Mrs. I. D. (Lorene) Starkes, W. J. Dosser, Jr., Troy Lee Dosser, & Leland Dale Dosser, all of Malakoff.
Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. A. J. (Lucy Brown) Dosser, Kerens.  Four brothers, Albert Dosser, 
Corsicana;  Charlie Dosser, Palestine;  Lewis Dosser & Bill Dosser, both of Athens;  and a sister, Mrs. 
Luther (Rosie) Carroll, Kerens.
Named as pallbearers were Bob Allen, Larkin Allen, Lige Allen, Jack Carter, Earl Allen, Bill Howard, 
Walter Tapley and Bud Arrington.

Clara Clay (Hinton) Dosser  1894 –1981

Mrs. Clara Clay (Hinton) Dosser, 87, of Malakoff, died Friday, October 2, 1981, in a Malakoff  nursing home.
Services is Sunday, 2 pm, Paschal Funeral Home Chapel in Malakoff with the Rev. Huey Clements officiating.  
Burial will be in Malakoff City Cemetery.
Survivors include four sons:  Aaron Dosser of Thidoaux, LA, W. J. Dosser of Venice, LA, Troy Lee "Doc" Dosser 
and L. D. "Jimmy" Dosser of Tri Cities; two daughters, Mrs. Lorene Starkes of Tri Cities, and Mrs. Juanita Riddlesperger, 
of Malakoff; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 
4 great-great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will be pallbearers.
Clara was born February 9, 1894 to W. L. & Annie Hinton in Henderson Co. TX.  
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Walter Jackson Dosser in 1941.

John M. Shumate

   Services for John Mary Shumate, 84, of Malakoff, TX (Henderson
Co.)are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of
Malakoff with Casey Perry and Ron Huckabee officiating.
Burial will follow at Malakoff Cemetery under the direction of
Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff.
   Mr. Shumate died May 2, 2002, in Malakoff.
   He was born Aug. 24, 1917, in Henderson County to William Houston
and Mettie Beatrice Wright Shumate.

   Mr. Shumate was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked as a union carpenter for 50 years. He was a member of
the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America --
Local Union 198 and 429. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Annie Louise
Monroe Shumate; two brothers; (Calvin & Chester) and one
sister (Lena Belle Shumate Vieregge).
   Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Doyle and Polly
(Hughes) Shumate, Ralph Wayne and Rebecca Shumate and Jerry Mack
Shumate; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Norman Millican,
Barbara and Jack Hearn, Quieva and Glenn Williams, Mary and Fred
Carter, Linda and Dick Jones and Marsha and Phillip Grant; 19
grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Normal Millican, Jack Hearn, Glenn Williams,
Fred Carter, Dick Jones, Phillip Grant, Lewis Vieregge, Randy
Monroe and George Corn.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeff Shumate, James
Norman Millican, Ed Williams, Kevin Williams, John Carter, Mark
Jones, Michael Shumate, Johns Thomas Shumate and James Ryan
Shumate.
   Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral
