Directions To

Fincastle Cemetery is located in the eastern part of Henderson County,
From the Henderson County Courthouse in Athens, Texas, go east on US
175 for 17.5 miles to Poyner. Turn North on FM 315 for 4.9 miles to its
intersection with CR 4325. Turn east for approx. 100 yards. A small white
church building is on the left and a Texas Historical Marker on the right.
Turn right (South) to cemetery. Enter the cemetery by a gate at the extreme
left corner. The land was designated public by Lydia Parmer, daughter of
John Tindel who founded Fincastle in 1851.

The property fence lines are approximately 10 degrees off of right angles
to each other. The gravesites are more or less perpendicular to the North
fence and generally follow rough lines. I gave the rows letters A, B, C, etc.,
ascending along the North fence. With the odd angle of the eastern fence,
along the grassy drive, the first rows are the shortest. I have then given each
gravesite a number in its row, starting from right to left. Sites are all in
consecutive order, skipping past ground with no obvious graves. When
more space is between rows, I also skipped letter, for ex. in Sec. A there
is no Row M. Also, each first site in its row begins with 1. For ex. There is
only 1 site in each of rows P, R, & T, and sites P-1, R-1, & T-1 are beyond
most of the others.

Due to the difficulty of maintaining a line of sight, I divided the cemetery
into Sections A and B, with perhaps 40% in Section A. There is no
correlation between the lettering of rows between the sections.
