From Athens take Hwy 19 North about 10 miles. When you see a sign that says CR 3824 Coker cemetery is on the left side two small driveways from the CR sign.

This is a private family cemetery

RITES SATURDAY FOR EX-WELFARE CHIEF GLYNNE COKERMemorial services for Glynne Coker, a retired director of the Dallas County Office of Public Welfare, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Episcopal Church in Grand Prairie. Coker died Monday at an Athens, Texas, nursing home after a lengthy illness. He was 79. was active in the senior citizens lunch program. Born in Athens in Henderson County, he graduated from Texas Tech University in 1934 with a degree in government. He later earned a master's degree in social work from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. He worked as a high school government and history teacher in Henderson County for two years after college. In 1936 he began work for the State Department of Public Welfare, and in 1957 he came to Dallas, where he became director of the Dallas County Public Welfare office. He retired in 1981. He was active in community and political organizations, including the Dallas Rotary Club. He served on the Governor's Committee on Aging. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Coker of Athens; two brothers, Raymond Coker and Douglas Coker, both of Athens; and two sisters, Laverne Owen and Eva Faulk, both of Athens. Memorials may be sent to Parkinson's disease research centers.

LaVerne Coker Owen Services for LaVerne Coker Owen, 95, Athens, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28,2008 at Coker Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Glosup officiating under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Canton. Burial will be in Coker Cemetery near Athens.She was born April 23, 1913, in Athens, to William Kellett and Mattie Dennis Coker.She was a member of Bethel Christian Church. She lived most of her life in the Bethel Community, just north of Athens. She was a retired school teacher and raised cattle and gardens. She loved her family. She was preceded in death by husband, John Bennett Owen, four brother W. K. Garland, Glynn and Raymond Coker.Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Mark and Chris Owen of Plano, granddaughter Stephanie Owen of Plano, sister Eva Faulk of Athens, brother Douglas Coker of Weatherford.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Stray Dog, Inc. P.O. Box 1465 Gun Barrel City, Texas 75146 or a charity of your choice.
