Prendergast, George MARSHALL -- Graveside services for George Prendergast, 85, of Marshall, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Grange Hall Cemetery, with Bob Bryant officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Sullivan-Heaster Funeral Home. Mr. Bryant passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2007, in Marshall. Mr. Prendergast was known to many as "Judge" and "Pop" by his family. Judge Prendergast was a descendent of a pioneer Harrison County family, and was born on March 21, 1921, Marshall, to George and Lala Mmarie Powell Prendergast. He married his beloved Irby Blalock, and they had 57 wonderful years of marriage, prior to her death in 2000. As a lifelong resident of Marshall, he graduated from Marshall High School and the University of Texas Law School. He served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant (jg) during World War II, and was awarded the Navy Cross for distinguished service as a carrier pilot in the Pacific Theater. He also received the Distinguished Flying Cross and two air medals. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. He was a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas. He was the Marshall Municipal judge for 20 years. Þ ¤ Judge Prendergast was associated with his father in private practice for seven years and served a two-year term as assistant district attorney for Harrison County. He was vice-president of First National Bank from 1954-1959, before joining Eastman Kodak Co., as secretary legal. On the home front, he was a past president of Harrison County United Methodist Fund, Marshall Council of Camp Fire Girls, Rotary Club and Marshall Corral Club. He was proud to say that all members of his immediate family attended UT at Austin, and he was a member of the executive committee of the Dad's Association of the University of Texas. Upon retiring, he spent a lot of time "down on the farm." This lawyer/farmer enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Prendergast Chevaillier of Marshall; daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Tom Abbott of Dallas, and Bonnie and Dick Dial of Longview; three grandchildren, Lee Kiblinger and husband, Greg, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and their children, Ben and Lauren, Kelly Abbott and Scott Abbott of Dallas; cousin, Joan Jones of Marshall; and nephews, Mason Chevailier and Dixon Chevaillier. Pallbearers will be Scott Abbott, Mason Chevaillier, Dixon Chevaillier, Phil Jones, Bill Jones, Val Jones, Tom Whaley, Ben Whaley, George Whaley, Charles Blalock III and Myron Blalock III.
