Kerr, LaVern T. Services for LaVern T. Kerr, 76, of Longview, will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2006, at Wesley McCabe United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Christi R. Conway officiating. Burial will follow in Hallsville Cemetery. Arrangements are by Welch Funeral Home. Mrs. Kerr died October 5, 2006, at a local medical center. Born April 8, 1930, in Summit, Ark., she was an active member of Wesley McCabe United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Kerr; sons, Jim and Russ Narramore; daughter, Anita Narramore Hurst; and sister, Pam Rice. Services to honor LaVern Tolliver Kerr of Longview, will be Monday, October 9, at 10 a.m., at Wesley McCabe UMC, with the Rev. Christi R. Conway officiating. Burial will follow at Hallsville Cemetery under the direction of Welch Funeral Home. LaVern departed this life on October 5, 2006. She was born in Summit, Arkansas, April 8, 1930. She moved to Diana, Texas, in 1952 and to Longview in 1971. LaVern was an active member of Wesley McCabe UMC, serving as a volunteer in the Terrific Tuesday Children's program, Sunday school teacher, Meals on Wheels and church librarian. She was a member of the Grace Emmaus Community. LaVern was recently serving as chaplain of the Longview Chapter 610, Order of the Eastern Star, of which she had been a member for 34 years. She was past matron of the Starlight Chapter 1016, Order of the Eastern Star of Longview. She served as an officer for many associations including: Longview Legal Secretaries, Texas Press Women, Daughters of the Nile and American Business Women's Association. She was also a member of the Longview Celtic Society, East Texas Square Dance Association and National UM Campers. Early in her career, she was employed by KFRO Radio and retired from Gregg County, where she was employed in several capacities within the district clerk, county sheriff and county commissioner offices. Her passions were spending time with her family, square and round dancing, reading, gardening, camping, sewing and traveling. Her love for her family and friends was exceeded only by her love for The Lord Jesus Christ. Mrs. Kerr is survived by her husband of 35 years, Kenneth H. Jr.; her sister, Pamela Tolliver Rice and husband, Rick; her sons, Jim Narramore and wife, Debbie, and Russell Narramore and wife, Reba; her daughter, Anita Narramore Hurst and husband, Sebastian; her grandchildren, Keri Narramore McDonald and Mikhail Hurst; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Master Sgt. Cheri Johnson, Cindi Nance, Becki Kinch, Kenneth Kerr III and their spouses. Also surviving LaVern are her stepgrandchildren, Nanci Smith, Staff Sgt. Eric Kerr, Stephanie, Brittanie, Jackie and Jennie Kinch, Cynthia Sexton, and Emily and Thomas Nance; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials in LaVern's honor may be made to Wesley McCabe UMC, Scottish Rite Children's Hospital of Dallas, or Longview Chapter 610, Order of the Eastern Star.
