James, Addie Belle Board 
  	
MARSHALL -- Services for Addie Belle Board James, will 
be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2007, at New Bethel 
Missionary Baptist Church in Marshall, with Pastor Steve 
Miller officiating. Burial will follow in St. James 
Cemetery of Marshall. Arrangements are by Peoples Funeral 
Home. Mrs. James passed away February 11, 2007, in Marshall. 
She was born in Marshall. Mrs. James attended Marshall 
public schools and received a bachelor of arts degree and 
master of education degree from Bishop College. She was a 
member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Court of Calanthe 
of Texas, Court No. 331, the Order of Eastern Star, 
Bethlehem Chapter No. 2 and OES. She was also a member of 
New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include her 
sons, Hakeem Shaheed and Don James; daughters, Myrtle James, 
Carol Harper and Willia Royster. The Omega Omega Service of 
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will be held at 5:15 p.m. Friday, 
February 16, 2007, at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. 
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. at the church.

James, Addie Belle Board 
  	
"For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle 
were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not 
made with hands: eternal in the heavens." ~ II Corinthians

MARSHALL -- Addie Belle James was born to Willie and Lula 
Board in Marshall, Texas. She went home to be with her 
Heavenly Father on February 11, 2007. Mrs. James completed 
her elementary and secondary education in Marshall, Texas. 
She received her bachelor of arts and master of education 
degrees from Bishop College in Marshall, Texas. She did 
post graduate studies at Texas Women's University in Denton, 
Texas and East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. On 
November 27, 1937, Addie Belle Board married Monroe Leroy 
James. She was a loving and devoted wife of 66 years until 
his death on June 29, 2004. To this union, five children 
were born. At an early age, Mrs. James accepted Jesus Christ 
as her personal Savior and was baptized at New Bethel 
Missionary Baptist Church. She remained an active and 
faithful member until her health failed. She continued to 
love and support her church throughout her extended illness. 
During her active membership, she served the Lord faithfully 
in many capacities, including sponsor of the Sunshine Band, 
group leader of the Baptist Training Union, Sunday school 
teacher, superintendent of the Junior Department and assistant 
Superintendent of the Sunday school. Mrs. James retired from 
the Marshall Independent School District as a guidance 
counselor in 1970, after many years teaching in Hallsville, 
Waskom and Marshall independent school districts. She was 
affiliated with national, state and local educational 
organizations. As an active lodge member, Mrs. James 
participated in the Court of Calanthe No. 331 and the 
Bethlehem Chapter No. 2 OES. Mrs. James was a Golden Life 
Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and a member of the 
Marshall Alumnae Chapter for more than 50 years. She served as 
treasurer, corresponding secretary, historian, delegate to the 
national convention and advisor of the Delta Omega Chapter at 
Bishop College for two years. Mrs. James had a quiet demeanor. 
Her Christian life was as the fragrance of a beautiful rose. "I 
can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" was one 
of her favorite passages of scripture. She was a loving mother, 
training her children to love and serve the Lord. She gave her 
love and support to her family unselfishly. Addie Belle James was 
preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Leroy James Sr.; parents, 
Willie Board and Lula Mae McMillian Board; brother, William Henry 
Board; and sister, Venolia Elaine Gaines. She is survived by her 
children, Myrtle Louise James, a faithful daughter and caregiver 
for the past nine and a half years, Hakeem Abdul Shaheed (Betty) 
of Compton, California, Carol A. Harper (Sanford) of Mount Juliet, 
Tennessee, Willia C. Royster (Frederick) of Union, New Jersey and 
Don N. James (Essie) of Longview, Texas; grandchildren; great-
grandchildren; nieces; nephews; devoted cousins; and special 
friends. "For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my 
departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished 
my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for 
me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, 
shall give me at that day; and not me only but unto all them that 
love His appearing."
