Deaver, Roy C. Services for Roy C. Deaver, 84, of Longview will, be 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2007, at Longview Church of Christ with Carl Garner and Robert Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Dollahite Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Deaver passed away Friday at a local hospital. Roy was born December 22, 1922, in Stephens County, Texas, to Harvey and Alta Deaver. His family moved to East Texas in 1930 and to Longview in 1932. Mr. Deaver attended grade school at Gum Springs and graduated from Longview High School on May 26, 1940. He was married to the love of his life, Wilma, two days prior to graduation on May 24, 1940. He was also a member of the 1937 State Championship Longview High School football team. He attended Freed-Hardeman College for three years and graduated in 1943 and attended Abilene Christian College and graduated in 1945. He also did 10 years of post- graduate work. He was the first president of Fort Worth Christian School and established the Brown Trail School of Preaching in Fort Worth. He was a faithful member of Longview Church of Christ. Roy loved the Lord and faithfully served Him, preaching the Gospel for more than 60 years. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. Survivors include his wife of more than 66 years, Wilma; sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Hardeman and Wanda Deaver of Rhome, Texas, Paul Mac and June Deaver of Denton, Texas, and Dan and Laura Deaver of Longview; sisters-in-law, Virginia Starr of Longview, Betty Deaver of Shreveport, La., Jean Gibson of Hallsville and Fannie Gibson of Longview; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
