Coggburn, Amelia Clark

Services for Amelia Clark Coggburn of Hallsville, Texas, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, 
July 3, 2007, at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, Texas, with Pastor 
Shinia Kelsey officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches, 
Texas, at 4:30 p.m.

Mrs. Coggburn passed away after a brief illness Thursday evening, June 28, 2007, 
at a care facility in Austin, Texas.

Mrs. Coggburn was born May 15, 1919, in Nacogdoches, to Leon and Myrtle Haltom 
Clark. Amelia was the granddaughter of William Clark and Charles S. Taylor, both 
signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence. She married John Coggburn in 
1943. They lived in Aransas Pass and Longview, Texas. They later moved to Magnolia, 
Arkansas, and back to Hallsville, where she was a resident since 1967. She moved 
to Longview in 2003, and in July 2006, moved to Austin to be close to her 
grandchildren and new great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Coggburn was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hallsville, 
United Methodist Women, Helping Hands Extension Club, Keenager's , Women's Forum, 
ARCO Retiree Club and a member of the Genealogy Society of Longview.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Coggburn; parents, Leon and Myrtle 
Clark; and a sister, Martha Louise Clark.

Mrs. Coggburn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda Lou and Tom Compton, 
recently of Austin, Texas; granddaughter, Amanda Leigh Compton Goss and husband, 
Doug Goss; grandson, John Thomas Compton; and great- granddaughter, Alaina Lauren 
Goss, all of Austin. She also is survived by her brother, Leon Clark Jr. and his 
two sons and their families. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and 
close friends.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at First United Methodist Church in 
Hallsville, Texas.

Visitation will be Monday, July 2, 2007, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
