1884 - Mrs E. Cooley DIED--At her late residence, in this city of the 16th inst., Mrs E. Cooley, aged 76 years. As the old year wanes and dies, we are called upon to lay away to rest citizens. One we have know, loved and honored as far back as memory can turn the varied page of life. Only once in each dreary year, the people throughout Christendom meet around the Yule log, at the throne of grace and the festal board to rejoice with the angelic chioir that sings "Glory to God in the Highest;peace on earth and good will to men," but death:"thou hast all seasons for thine own, O death." Thou cometh like a thief in the dark and stealeth the babe from the mothere arms and the mother from the babe. Thoa layeth thy hand upon youth and It withereth;upon age and it is gathered to the harvest. But while the heart heaves a sigh and the eye overflows with tears, the spirit looks up to Calvary and lo! the cross is replaced by a shining crown and the angels sing. Mrs Cooley was the sister of CHESLEY M. ADAMS, deceased, one of the ablest lawyers of the old Texas bar. She leaves a large family of children and other relatives to mourn her loss. She has lived an long an exemplary life as , member of socity, and a consistent member of the M E church. The funeral took place Wednesday from her late residence, attended by a number of friends, Elder R.W. Thompson and Rev. Dr. Ward officiating.
