Hiram Bronson Granbury of the 7th TX Brigade. John enlisted in the 7th with another famous General, H K Van Zandt and there met Granbury. Granbury was killed at Franklin - Nov 30, 1864, where John R Crain tended him. Granbury had once been wounded earlier in the war - 1862 - & John R Crain had saved his life. Also, in 1862, Granbury's wife, Fannie, was dying of ovarian cancer – there is info that Granbury had consulted John Richard Crain concerning that illness. John Richard Crain joined 7th TX Infantry as a Field Surgeon in Oct 1861 and remained in that unit until the unit was formed with several other units into Granbury's TX Consolidated Brigade in 1864 - he still being listed as Surgeon until surrender in April 1865.
