ANN RODESNEY MATTHEWS, 84, born July 20, 1941, passed away May 16, 2006 after a short illness. Although she considered service to her family and community her greatest work, Ann is retired from the University of Houston where she was an Administrative Assistant in the Graduate School of Chemical Engineering. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joseph L. "Pete" Matthews; her daughter, Laura Raiford and granddaughter, Jennifer Raiford, and her son, Timothy N. Matthews. RALPH POWELL MAYFIELD, JR., passed away at Memorial City Hospital, Houston, Texas on February 5, 2006. He was born in Coldwater, Mississippi, to Ralph and Mariglyn Mayfield. Ralph graduated from Coldwater High School in 1960. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1964, with a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. In 1969, Ralph moved to Houston, Texas to work for Brown & Root and later for MW Kellogg Engineering. His vast experience in the petro-chemical field led him all over the world. He retired from Kellogg in 1997 as a Senior Project Director. After retirement, Ralph was able to pursue his life long dream of building and driving race cars, which he did successfully from his business, RPM Autosports, Inc. in Houston. His knowledge of engine design and aerodynamics was admired throughout the racing community. Ralph was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Houston Racquet Club and Sports Car Club of America. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 7th of February 2006 in the Library of Geo. H. ELEANOR SEARLE WHITNEY McCOLLUM led an extraordinary life of fascinating, varied experiences, and her friends ranged from heads of state to native villagers. She was an ageless, regal beauty who also introduced beauty, at every opportunity, into the lives of people from all walks of life. Eleanor was widely recognized for her philanthropic participation in musical, religious, charitable and medical fields. She will be remembered with great love, admiration and gratitude by family, friends and admirers throughout the world. They will always treasure her loving kindness, clarity, generosity and vision, and they will ever marvel at her indomitable spirit and spirituality, which enabled her achievements and inspired others to excel and exceed limitation.
  The daughter of George James Searle, M.D. and Bertha Fenner Searle, Eleanor was born in Plymouth, Ohio. From early childhood, she exhibited promise as a performer. After studies at Florida Southern College she moved to New York City to take voice lessons and became an opera singer. There she met and married her first husband, Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney, scion of two notable American families. They had one son, her beloved Cornelius Searle Whitney. While living in New York and later in wartime Washington, D.C., she was involved in numerous cultural and charitable activities. She also was known as a leader of style and fashion, regularly appearing in the society pages. In 1946, she was featured on the cover of Life Magazine, driving her "four-in-hand" coach and horses on her Long Island estate. Several years later, Eleanor resumed her singing career and also traveled the world, performing for the Billy Graham Ministries. She became a successful concert and oratorio soloist, speaking and singing in over 8,000 churches of all denominations as well as for civic, cultural and political organizations worldwide. She performed as a soloist with the United States Air Force Band and also spoke and sang at Presidential, gubernatorial and mayoral prayer breakfasts throughout the country. In 1971 her autobiography, Invitation to Joy, was published by Harper and Row. Her second husband was the legendary Houston oilman, cattle breeder, banker and philanthropist, Leonard F. "Mc" McCollum. She adored her dear "Mc" and their 18 wonderful years together. After Mr. McCollum's death in 1993, Eleanor continued the couple's tradition of service to the community, chairing a major Houston benefit three years later, at age 88. That same year, Eleanor launched an historic restoration program in Plymouth, Ohio. She created a heritage museum and an 1850 Victorian bed and breakfast, among various other contributions to her hometown, as a lasting tribute to her cherished family and Ohio heritage. In the years that followed, her daily life was defined by productive activity, unstoppable volunteerism and her deep devotion to the Lord. Among her many religious works, she supported domestic and international missions and missionaries. She produced the Butterfly Edition of the New Testament and provided for its distribution through the American Bible Society on whose board she served for 47 years. She was particularly well known and admired as an outstanding speaker and, in musical circles, as the "Grand Dame of Opera." Over the years, her love of music involved her with the Houston Grand Opera Association, of which she was elected a Life Trustee in 1993. Earlier, the Opera's nationwide "Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers Concert of Arias," had been named in honor of her generous, longtime support of this annual program and her exceptional devotion to developing the careers of young operatic artists. For the last 13 years, she presented the Competition's awards on stage at the Opera House. Her appearance was a dramatic, much-anticipated highlight of the evening. For nearly two decades, Eleanor served on the advisory board of ORBIS International, the worldwide sight-saving organization. She was the elegant driving force of its annual charity ball here, carrying on the work of Mr. McCollum, the founding chairman of ORBIS and its DC-10 flying eye hospital. In 1999, at the age of 91, she accompanied an ORBIS mission to Morocco. She was especially looking forward to the upcoming ORBIS benefit, "The Global Society Ball," honoring her on October 5th, her 94th birthday. Recently, she was instrumental in the establishment of The Bone Disease Program of Texas, a collaborative program of Baylor College of Medicine and The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. This year also, she was recognized by Northland Pioneer College in Arizona for her longtime support of scholarships for Hopi Indian students. Among her many other civic and charitable commitments, she served on the national board of Paget's Disease Foundation; the boards of Retina Research Foundation, Dr. Michael E. DeBakey Heart Center, and Theatre Under the Stars; and she was an Ambassador-at-Large for UNICEF. For the years 2000 and 2001, the After Dinner Players dedicated their theatrical performances to Eleanor for her continued support. She was the recipient of the 26th annual Savvy Award, a 1999 Women of Distinction Award and numerous other honors in Houston and other cities. ANTONY RYAN MOORE, 26 of Pearland passed away March 12, 2005. Ryan was born in Pasadena November 16, 1978. He was a 1997 graduate of Pearland High School where he lettered as a member of the football team. He then enrolled in college at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Education in 2002 and completed his Master of Sports Administration in 2004. While in college he was a member of the HSU Football team. He was active in the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, holding the Alumni Director & Awards Chairman and Executive Vice President positions. He was a member of the AR Education Association, American Football Coaches Association, and AR High School Coaches Athletic Administration and was currently employed as a teacher in the Hot Springs Middle School, Hot Springs, AR. At college his responsibilities grew from the assistant equipment manager and video coordinator to Student Coach Assistant for the Defensive Line and Strength and Conditioning coach and later Graduate Assistant Coach for the Running Backs and Kickoff Return Team Coach. He earned a football scholarship at HSU and lettered two years. Visitation will be from 4-7pm at the Forest Park East Funeral Home in Webster on Tuesday March 15 with funeral services on Wednesday March 16 at 12:30 pm. KEVIN MOORE, husband, father, and friend to many, went gently into that good night on February 3, 2004 leaving memories of his wit to soothe hearts broken as he became star stuff. Predeceased by his daughter, Kimberly Whittington Moore and father, William L. Moore, Kevin was born November 25, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY, grew up in Ridgewood, NJ and in Houston. Kevin was a master communicator and shared himself with people in ways most of us are not courageous enough to do. He wrote outrageous copy for the Houston ad community for 28 yrs. DONITA WATTS MORRISON died on May 3, 2006 in Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Winston (Tex) Morrison, and grandson, Brian Dylan Morrison, brothers, Wayne Watts, Dr. Walter Watts, and sisters, Gayle Ranker and Jeanne Maun. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Donita married Dr. J. W. (Tex) Morrison in Chicago in 1946. They moved to Houston for Tex to begin his internship at Jefferson Davis Hospital. She worked intermittently as a copy-writer, free-lance writer and in public relations in Chicago, Houston, and Clear Lake. She was formerly active in the Harris County Medical Society Auxiliary, and St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. She was an active member of Holy Ghost Parish, and was the first President of the Strake Jesuit College Preparatory Mothers Club. Most recently, she has been an active member of St. Bernadette Church in Clear Lake City, the Jubilee Theresians, and the Volunteers in Reading Program. In 1994, her book Picking Up the Pieces How Survivors Survive was published. Her generosity, wit, kindness, gentleness of spirit and enthusiasm for life will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. GUY LOREN MORRISON, JR., 73, of Baytown, Texas, was welcomed into heaven on February 20, 2005, after a long, courageous battle with an illness. Born January 6, 1932, in Mount Kisco, New York, to Guy and Eleanor Morrison, Guy was raised in New York and graduated from Katonah High School in 1950 about the same time he met his wonderful wife, Harriet. Guy was voted the "Quietest" by his graduating class, a title he later proved wrong with his unique ability to capture the attention of anyone in his presence by charming them with his words. Guy later attended a community college in White Plains, New York, and New York's School of Interior Design, which led him to accent and further extend his natural talents in art and carpentry. After marriage and the birth of his four children, Guy went on to live in several other states including Georgia, California, Florida and Texas. An accomplished pianist/organist and singer since the age of nine, Guy graced numerous churches he attended with his amazing musical talent. Since he was fourteen years old and throughout most of his adult life, Guy lent his music, from his hands, voice and heart to God's ears, through church services. For six years of his residence in Texas, he played the organ and sang for the Braeswood Assembly of God in Houston, Texas. Most recently, although unable to perform music anymore, Guy was a cherished member of the Trinity Tabernacle Assembly of God in Baytown, Texas. Along with his exceptional musical talent, Guy was a magnificent artist who produced hundreds of paintings and portraits, some of which were displayed in banks in Houston, Texas and museums in Katonah, New York for many years. Today most of his brilliant artwork is found in the homes of his family, but none so great as the picture he has painted in his family's hearts, as well as all who knew him. He will always be remembered best by his family and many friends for his corny humor. He loved to tell old jokes repetitively. Guy's other interest included, gardening, carpentry, and eating Chinese food and Shipley's Donuts. A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grand-father, Guy is preceded in death by his parents, Guy Loren Morrison, Sr., and Eleanor Small; two brothers, Wayne and David Morrison; two nieces, Mary Katherine Morrison Anderson and Diane Morrison Davidson Honoring the family as pallbearers will include Craig Morrison, Wadih Saifi, Eric Morrison, Heath and Michael Pritchett, and Jamil Saifi. TOBY MORTON, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away May 6 at age 76. He was born in Corisicana, Texas on June 10, 1929 and was a graduate of North Texas University. He resided in Houston for over 50 years and was involved in fund raising and development for The United Fund, Rice University and The Institute of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine. In later years he worked in real estate in a variety of capacities. Toby had been semi-retired the past 20 years while residing in Cypress, Texas with his loving and devoted wife, Justine. Toby will be remembered for the love he had for his family. He was devoted to his friends, especially those who were disabled, ill or older. He routinely made donations to charitable organizations. FRANK NASH, JR. of Cypress, Texas, passed away on September 15, 2004, due to a broken heart. Frank was born August 31, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois and resided there for over 20 years. His career eventually took him on a journey throughout the Southern United States, ending up in Texas, where he resided for the past 22 years. Frank had a very successful career in the construction industry. He spent the last 17 of his 30 plus years building apartment communities in Texas for Trammell Crow Residential, Gables Residential, Gables Residential Trust and most recently Alliance Communities. During that time he directed the construction of over 5,000 apartment units in over 25 communities, starting as an onsite superintendent and progressing to creating and running the construction operations at Alliance as Regional Vice President. He was deeply respected and loved by co-workers, subcontractors and suppliers who have the utmost respect for Frank's abilities, his "can do" attitude and his outgoing personality. He loved his work, was a pioneer in using many diverse building systems and techniques, building multiple product types and had many accomplishments and achievements. Frank is preceded in death by his beloved son, Frankie Nash III and his father, Frank Nash. We all loved you so much Frank-you will be sorely missed. You were the light and the life of our gatherings and the laughter in our hearts. Our lives will forever be empty without you here, but our love for you remains constant and unconditional. MAGDALENE C. "Maggie" OLSEN, longtime receptionist and evening hostess at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, the 20th of April 2006. Born on the 20th of April 1918 in Giddings, Texas, Magdalene moved to Houston with her husband, H. W. "Swede" Olsen, a mechanical engineer. Following her husband's passing in 1971, Maggie began her tenure at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons; serving with compassion and dedication for over thirty-four years. Those who have called upon the firm will remember Maggie for her comforting smile and her genuine warmth. The staff will never forget her caring personality and her true devotion to the families served. Active in her community, Maggie was especially proud of her fifty-year membership at South Main Baptist Church, and she volunteered each week to prepare sandwiches for the homeless. A charter member of her "elite Sewing Club," she always enjoyed the group's luncheons. Maggie made friends wherever she traveled; and she loved to nurture those relationships. As an example, while accompanying her husband on an international assignment, Maggie formed a special bond with a Korean family and eventually adopted them. Until her passing, she considered them "family," and they always held a special place in her heart. Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, Claud and Bettie Crow; sisters, Irene Beard, Beulah Mae Malone, Ruby Pittman; and brothers, Vernon Crow, Nolen Crow, Sr., and J. C. Crow. GRANT ANDREW PATTERSON, beloved son of Bucky and Susan Patterson, died on December 25, 2005. Grant, age 18, was born in Houston on June 30, 1987. JEWEL ESTELLE PEARCE PATTERSON, retired teacher, librarian, and quilting teacher who taught thousands in the Houston area, died peacefully at home on Nov. 19, 2001, the morning of her 92nd birthday. Born in Sabinal, Texas in 1910, Mrs. Patterson was the daughter of William Benjamin Pearce and Ella Glaeser Pearce. She grew up in San Antonio, where she was valedictorian of her class at Westmoreland College. In 1934, she married Clovis C. (Pat) Patterson after a whirlwind six-week courtship and went to live in Gilmer, Texas, where her only daughter, Karey Helen Patterson Bresenhan was born. In 1942, the family moved to Houston. In 1954, after the tragic accidental death of her husband left her as sole support of her daughter, Jewel returned to college at night and during the summer to get an education degree and begin her teaching career. She taught kindergarten in HISD at Love, Browning, and Briargrove Elementary Schools. Later she went back to the University of Houston and Sam Houston University to get her Masters of Library Science degree and was the librarian at Briargrove until her retirement in the 70s. After she retired from HISD, she served as a librarian in the Oak Forest Branch of the Houston Public Library and helped establish the library in Eagle Lake, Texas. She began teaching quilting at her daughter's quilt store, Great Expectations Quilts, in 1975 and enjoyed a wonderful third career in the world of quilts for many years. Jewel always laughed and said that she "retired to start working," and that was very true. Even late into her 70's, she was a major influence in quilting, very active in Houston's huge International Quilt Festival, and widely known as a quilting teacher and designer. With her sister, daughter, and niece, Jewel founded the International Quilt Association, now the largest international non- profit quilt organization in the world; she also co-founded the Quilt Guild of Greater Houston. To mark her 80th birthday, the Jewel Pearce Patterson Scholarship for Quilting Teachers was established, dedicated to the continuing education and sharing of quilting techniques among teachers of many countries. A gifted seamstress, Jewel made custom clothing for many of "her ladies," made all of her daughter's clothes, designed and made many beautiful fundraising quilts, and even made her niece's wedding dress. Her entire life was spent making other people happy, particularly her family, and bringing beauty to the world through her own talents and through sharing her love of stitching, sewing, and quilting with others. Jewel was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002 in the chapel of Heights Funeral Home. June 10, 2002 God gave DYRON EVERETTE POWELL, JR., M.D. (Dep) his angel wings. Meeting him at the gate were his grandparents, Guinnea, Guindad, and PaPa. Dep is still a shining star in our lives. He was a kidney patient from birth, but it was never a handicap. Dep accomplished more in 26 years than most people do in a lifetime. He was an inspiration not only to his family, but also to friends and acquaintances. He had a brilliant mind and a kind soul. His sphere of influence was phenomenal. Dep aspired to be a wonderful father using his Dad, Dyron Everette Powell, as his role model. Dep never thought he had a hard life, and delivery of another physical trial or tribulation might make him pause but he never gave up. He pushed forward with resolve as the rest of us attempted to keep up with him. Becoming a medical doctor was a burning desire. He was a third year medical student at International University of the Health Sciences, School of Medicine and the founder and president of the IUHS Student Association. He was a confidant and provided a quiet wisdom with guidance to students and faculty alike. In April, he was elected International Trustee Associate of the Student American Medical Association. Due to his outstanding performance and first in his class the IUHS Trustees granted his degree of Medical Doctorate posthumously. Dyron was a volunteer paramedic with Cypress Creek EMS, and worked as a paramedic with Coleman County EMS and Harris County ESD#1 a 911 Service as well as a former owner of MedExpress Ambulance Service. His passion for seemingly hopeless causes led him to be a compassionate problem solver every where he went. His zeal for the "Underdog" along with his own life experiences propelled him to have kind words and a steady hand reaching out to anyone who needed it. He attended North Harris Community College, Texas Tech University with an Engineering Scholarship and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. We thank Humble Northeast Hospital and ER, Texas Children's Hospital and Methodist Hospital for all the years they took care of all of us. Dr. Edmond Gonzales, Dr. Larry Tabor, Dr. Boone, Dr. Lerner and Dr. Goldfarb. Dr. Lugo-Miro who is as much family as physician, and all whom knew him. Dep was a gadget man from the time he could wire anything. He has probably got the latest set of Angel wings and has already modified them for speed and sound. While playing golf up there with his PaPa and Guindad, he will make time to play scrabble with Guinnea. We are sure he has a couple of student and professional organizations he is founding. St. Peter will love all his suggestions for he has made another friend. How do you describe a person like Dep, who touched so many people? His deep abiding love of God and his Savior held him and carried him through the depths and heights of his life. We are the people we are today because he touched our lives and inspired us. AUDREY HEADDEN PROCTOR July 20, 1920 March 28, 2006 Audrey Headden Proctor died peacefully on March 28, 2006, from complications following a head injury. In 1940, Audrey fell in love with Thomas Proctor. They eloped to Baltimore via train and were married. This marriage produced four beautiful children Alan, Tom, Audrey-Anne and Deborah. Shortly after the birth of their second son, the family was transferred to Paris, France. This began a lifetime of world travel, which Audrey loved. The family moved from Paris back to Bethesda, followed by six years in Sydney, Australia. Audrey had many fond memories of the years in Australia. Later, the family lived in Baltimore, Michigan and Ohio. The family relocated to Audrey's beloved Nassau Bay, where the family home remained for 41 years. Audrey held positions as an executive secretary at NASA, and with W.E. Feddersen Associates. At the age of 52, she took an overseas position with the HCA and was stationed in Saudi Arabia for 2 years. She held positions at Honeywell and later at Baker-Hughes. At the age of 60, she opened her own secretarial service, "Minute Minders." She was an avid bridge player throughout her life and a member of the Jean Laffite sailing club. She participated in all types of sports but was a particularly good tennis player, a skill she has passed on to her son Alan. She traveled the world several times over visiting every continent with family and friends. She made 6 trips between Australia and the U.S. with four small children and 28 pieces of luggage. Audrey lived a life of devotion to her children. For the past 20 years, her joy was having the extended family together for any occasion for drinks and dinner. She is preceded in death by her husband in 1985. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Houston Humane Society, or to the Periwinkle Foundation. LOUISE WALLA RILEY left the beauty of the farm she loved on May 15, 2006 at the age of 93. She was born in Taylor, Texas on November 30, 1912 to August and Pauline (Niedermertl) Walla. She lived most of her life in Houston, Texas until she and husband, Gus B. Riley, moved to their farm near Columbus, Texas in 1963. She also was a longtime member of the SPJST Lodge #88. JESSE LLOYD ROBINSON, age 66, born on May 31, 1936 in Talladega, Alabama went to be with his Heavenly Father, and his Precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, February 20, 2003. Jesse was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Wilson Robinson. Jesse graduated from Talladega High School in 1954 and joined the Airforce in 1956. In 1958, he married Peggy and began his family in Ashland, Alabama. On his birthday in 1967, he packed his Corvair and brought his wife and four children to Houston and began working for Brown & Root. He worked over 40 years designing and drafting Pipe layouts for Petro-chemical plants, Paper plants and Offshore oil rigs. He was an avid golfer, and loved playing Chess and working crossword puzzles. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 22, at the Pat H. MARY ELIZABETH COMPTON ROBINSON died in Spring Branch in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday, March 29, 2006. She was she 83. PATRICK WELDER ROBINSON, beloved brother, uncle, step-son and friend, passed way unexpectedly on Thursday, October 17, 2002. Patrick, a native Houstonian, and a true son of Texas, was born on October 30, 1951. After graduating from The Kinkaid School, Patrick attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a degree in History in 1975. While at UT, Patrick was an active member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. After graduation, and throughout his career, Patrick was actively engaged in the oil and gas business. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Welder Robinson; his nephew, Adam DeWalt Adams; his step-mother, Louise F. Robinson; his uncle, Patrick H. Welder, Jr. and extended family members in Victoria, Ft. Bend, and Harris Counties. He is also survived by his former wife and friend, Susan Rutherford, and loyal employees, Helen B. Ford, Walter K. JAMES ELTON SCARBOROUGH, 77 of Houston, TX passed away Saturday March 18, 2006. He retired July 1, 1990 after a 38 year career in the Merchant Marines and a member of the Masters, Mates and Pilots Union. His first stint with the Merchant Marines was from 1944 to 1948. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1944 at 16 after trying to follow brothers into the military. He was a postal letter carrier in San Angelo from 1950 to 1957 followed by a year as a roustabout in Wichita Falls. He returned to the Merchant Marines in 1957 to retirement. He last sailed on the USS Margaret Lykes as 3rd mate out of Houston, Texas. Mr. Scarborough was preceded in death by his wife, Henietta Scarborough; parents, John Wesley Scarborough and Carrie Marie Benningfield; daughter, Beverly Sue Struthers; and son, Randal Scott Scarborough. GEORGIE MEADORS SLAUGHTER, 92, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2006. She was born June 9, 1913 in Holly, Texas to Verna and Paul Meadors. Her husband Wesley Cleburne Slaughter, daughter June Claire Slaughter, and son, William Dane Slaughter, preceded her in death. Mrs. Slaughter was a long time member of First Baptist Church, Galena Park. She served on many church committees, WMU, and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She taught fourth grade at MacArthur Elementary School in Galena Park and retired from there after more than 25 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and a 50 year member of Galena Park Eastern Star. Beloved husband, father, brother and friend, 10/3/30 - 04/25/06 KENNETH RUE (K.R.) SMITH died peacefully, Tuesday, April 25, 2006. Born in Houston to Phillip Alexander Smith and Virgie Bearden Smith, he is a graduate of Milby High School. He began working at Sinclair Refinery during summers in high school and continued working there throughout his worklife. He joined the Air Force during the Korean War, serving in Newfoundland and Witchita Falls. He married Helen Swint and they lived in Houston after the Air Force. She died with their unborn child in 1954. He is a member of Grand Lodge of Texas, Pasadena No. 1155. He continued working at the refinery, met and married Jannelle Hubbard and they had two children. Kenneth retired from Arco in 1985. Wife Jannelle died in 1986 and son Todd in 1989. After retirement, K.R. worked for several companies as a consultant. A long-time member of Park Place Baptist Church, he married Connie Johnson there in 1990. They moved to Dickinson and he enjoyed remodeling their bay house, golf and babysitting grandchildren. They joined Dickinson First Baptist Church in 2002. In 2003 he suffered a severe stroke, forcing a move to a single-story home in Texas City. PAT SMITH age 83, a resident of Irving for 52 years, died Saturday, May 27, 2006 in Houston,Texas. Born September 20, 1922 in Hamburg, Iowa to Charles D. Clear and Mary Louise Smith, he was a retired airline pilot from Texas International Airlines. Pat was an Episcopalian and a founding member of The Church of the Redeemer in Irving. Pat was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Sara Elizabeth Clear and five siblings; Franklin, Harold, Eldon, Guy, and Ferne. Pat served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a B-24 Liberator pilot for the 742nd Squadron of the 455th Bomber Group of the 15th Air Force, primarily being stationed in Italy. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and was honorably discharged as a Major in 1945. He married his high school sweetheart, Sara, during the war and stayed true to her through his last breath. Pat started commercial flying with Trans-Texas Airways in 1949 and retired after "33 years of outstanding service" in 1982. Through all of his days, Pat was everyone's friend, a good listener and a good story teller, but mostly a 'true friend' no matter what happened. Visitation is scheduled for 7-9 pm Friday at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Irving. Bill was a member of the United States Air Force Reserve and retired as Deputy Director of Life Sciences for NASA after 35 years of service. He earned B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas. JACK (JOHN STONEHAM) STOFFER, born June 29, 1912 in Indian Territory, died April 20, 2006 in Houston Texas with his family at his side. Jack was a model of integrity and courage in all his relations; loving, strong, gentle, and wise. He leaves a legacy of humor, stories, paintings, and wise counsel to all who sought it. Jack graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, and Washington University in St. Louis. He married Sarah Josephine Mitchell October 5, 1935. Jack's career with Gulf Oil began in 1933 and ended in 1977 as Vice President and Comptroller of Gulf Oil Company U.S. after assignments in Tulsa, Denver, Iran and Houston. After retiring, Jack worked at Ms. with his daughter Sarah. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta - Mo Gamma, The Abadan Society, Pioneer Oil Producers, Ridotto, Bailita and the Post Oak YMCA. Jack was past board president of both the Family Service of Houston and Emerson Unitarian Church, and board member of the Light House of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mabel Stoneham Stoffer, his sister Florence Gish, son-in-law Jerry Abrams, and his beloved wife Jo. RYAN SCOTT TOMLINSON, age 22, was born August 10, 1981 in Houston, Texas and passed away abruptly in a tragic motorcycle accident, November 6, 2003. He was born May 13, 1930 to John Vernon and Helene Nell Gaughan Van Rheen in Paola, Kansas and was raised in Neodesha, Kansas. He was 1949 Class President of Neodesha High School and then attended Pittsburgh State College in Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army achieving the rank of Sergeant. In 1955, he relocated his family to Houston. In 1993, Mr. Van Rheen retired as Director of the Harris County Child Support Department where he had served for 18 years. Prior to Harris County, he was Office Manager for Houston Wholesale Jewelers. Mr. Van Rheen was an active community member of Houston and Pasadena which included being a local coordinator of The United Way, Board Member of Saint Pius Catholic School, Board Member of Houston Cultural Preservation Society, Pasadena Republican Party Precinct Chairman, member of Houston Saengerbund and a volunteer for the San Jacinto Girl Scout Council. Mr. Van Rheen was very involved and supportive of his seven children's sports and extracurricular activities in the Deer Park School District. A Vigil with Rosary will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 18511 Klein Church Rd, Spring, Texas (281-376-6831). ANDREA LOREN VAUGHN departed this life on May 1, 2002 at the age of 34 years. She was born on July 29, 1967 in Houston, Texas to Paul and Patricia Barrett. Loren was a member of the 1985 graduating class at Deer Park High School. She was deeply loved by all those who knew her and her loss will be greatly felt. Loren is preceded in death by her father Paul Edward Barrett. Family and friends will gather for visitation on Sunday, May 5, 2002 from 6p.m. until 9p.m. at South Park Funeral Home. NELLIE MAE VAUGHN of Houston, Texas passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at the age of 88. She was born August 6, 1917, in Independence, Missouri to Andrew and Elizabeth Conway Cruwell. Mrs. Vaughn retired as a secretary from the Sears location in downtown Houston, after 40 years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Sears Retirement Group and of AARP. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John H. Vaughn; her sisters, Louise Carson and Emma Cruwell; and her brothers, William and John Cruwell. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 19, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in the Memorial Mission Mausoleum at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, with Pastor Bob Collie and Dr. Gene Russell officiating. JAMES ROYCE "JIMMY" WALL, 57, of Channelview lost his courageous battle with cancer on April 20, 2006. He was born in Port Arthur, Texas on February 2, 1949 to J.C. and Mary Wall. James was a Ship Pilot for 17 years and he had also been a Tug Boat Captain. James served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was of the Protestant Faith. Houston... Military Funeral services for WILLIE DEE "BILL" 'W.D.' WALKER, 79 of Houston were held Tuesday July 8, 2003 at American Heritage Funeral Home in Houston, TX. Burial was in The Houston National Cemetery.
  "Bill" was born in Prairie Dell, Bell County, TX April 12, 1924, the 5th child of his parents and passed away Sunday, July 6, 2003 in a Houston Hospital.
  Mr. Walker was born to Ed Lee and Wiley Louise White Walker. He was the grandson of Bell County Pioneers William Winston "W.W." Walker, Sarah Adams Kirkpatrick Walker, George Prentice "Ponto" White and Mary Ann Cearley White. Bill spent his youth in the Bell County area. He lived in Houston for 48 years, where for over 35 years he was a car dealer. Bill was a private pilot and an avid deer hunter.. He was in the U. S. Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations with the 442nd Airborne Glider Division.
  Survivors are his wife of 51 years, Lucia "Lucie" Reymen Walker; six brothers, Roy Walker of Colorado Springs, CO., Tommy Walker of Gonzales, Ed Walker of Altair, Claude Hess of Little River, Robert and Jesse Walker, both of Belton: and five sisters, Katie B. Raabe of Moody, Clara Blair of Temple, Dorothy Smith of Salado and Faye Copeland and Cewilla Wolff, both of Belton. Sister-in-law Martha Reymen Lewis Sculley of California; Nephew Michael Lewis, whom he raised as a son, great niece Dana Marie Lewis, great nephew Kyle Lewis, and many other relatives and close friends.
  Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and step-mother, Lemmie Hess Walker; brothers, A. W. Walker of Nolanville, TX and Fred Hess of Roswell, NM; sisters Ann Estridge of Waco, Evelyn Cohen of San Angelo, TX. and Hettie Raabe of Moody, TX.

GEORGE ROBERT "RED" WATTS, born August 21, 1925 to Robert and Roberta Watts in Jacksonville, Texas, passed away May 29, 2006. "Red", as he was known to many, Red carried the scars of battle from his service in the U.S. Marines on the island of Pelilu during World War II. He was a locomotive engineer for Southern Pacific for 48 years and left behind a legacy of professionalism.
