This historical marker is located in front of the courthouse in Spearman, Texas.
After Sheriff Martin was killed the commissioner's court appointed Joe Spivey to finish the term of office. Spivey held the office from 1911 to 1914.
Sheriff Spivey was the son of Isaac Temple Spivey and Betty E. Walling. Joe Spivey moved to new Mexico and died in Silome Springs in 1954.
