Travis, Roy Services for Roy Travis, 88, will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at Greggton United Methodist Church, with Dr. Jonathan Bynum, the Rev. Carol Heath, the Rev. Dow Harleston and the Rev. Emmitt Barrow officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Travis went to be with his Lord and Savior October 19, 2007. He was born December 2, 1918, in Hunt County, Texas, to M.E. and Carrie Travis. On February 16, 1941, he married Margaret Wilkinson, and they celebrated 66 years of marriage this past February. They resided in Malakoff, Texas, the first two years of their marriage. While there, he was the high school coach and established an industrial arts program. The family then moved to Longview, where he was the only coach for Pine Tree ISD for five years. He then took over the industrial arts program and taught it for 38 years until he retired. He was a member of Greggton United Methodist Church since 1943, where he taught Sunday school for many years, served as chairman of the administrative board, church treasurer, building committee, and worked with the youth for several years. He loved working with wood and could build and make all kinds of furniture. He used this talent building things for the church, Asbury House, and for friends. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He always had a garden and shared vegetables he grew with family and friends. He was a kind, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leo and M.L.; and sister, Edith Yetts. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his two sons, Joe and David; brother, Tommy; sisters, Lillie Worcester, Corrine McCown, Ruby Crownover, Arretta Adams, Margaret Ann and Joy Travis; daughters-in-law, Sharon Travis and Cheryl Travis; grandchildren, Jennifer Wilbur, Trevor, Lindsey, and Bradley Travis; great-grandchildren, Cody and Brooke Wilbur; along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Monday, October 22, 2007, from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Greggton United Methodist Church, 1101 Pine Tree Rd., Longview, TX 75604.
