Scalco, Van

Services for Van Scalco, 66, of Longview, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 28, 
2007, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 508 Sixth St., with Father Mark Dunne and 
Deacon Joe Pipak officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park Cemetery.

Van died Tuesday afternoon, September 25, 2007, at his residence.

Van and his wife, Vincie, owned and operated Van's Beauty Supply for 30 years 
before retiring. During this period, they had five locations, along with a sales 
staff that serviced more than one hundred-mile radius of Longview.

Van was an avid car enthusiast. About 27 years ago, he rekindled a teenage dream 
of owning fine automobiles. Van began to buy, rebuild and detail vehicles while 
making many loved friends along the way. He found success in this hobby as 
several of his cars received awards at different car events.

After being diagnosed with cancer two years ago, he continued to rebuild cars, 
and the last car he completed received two awards at the Good Guys Event held at 
the Texas Motorplex as well as being featured in the May issue Rod and Custom 
magazine.

He was a regular at the Antique Mall, and if he was not there, his doors were 
open seven days a week for friends to stop in for coffee and to catch a glimpse 
of his latest project.

Van felt fortunate to live out his dream and meet so many wonderful people along 
the way. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends and remembered for 
his smile and as someone who enjoyed life to the fullest.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam P. and Alta Faye Scalco; and a 
brother, Raymond Harold.

Van is survived by his wife, Vincie; daughter, Tena Scalco Vogel; son-in-law, Von 
Vogel; son, Joey Scalco; son and daughter-in-law, Vince and Angie Scalco; 
grandchildren, Jade Vogel, Shea Vogel, Anthony Vogel, McKenna Vogel and Dominick 
Scalco; great-grandson, Ronan Blaise Vogel; brothers, Stefan Scalco, J.R. Scalco, 
Frank Scalco and Victor Scalco; sisters, Helen Reynolds, Maria Scalco and Frances 
Scalco Carney; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Beacon Hospice, 1805 S. Mobberly, Longview, 
TX 75602.

Family visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. this afternoon, September 27, 2007, at 
Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Road.
