Stringer, Tommye Tommye Stringer, 88, beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt died at home on Saturday, April 7, 2007. Services will be at 11 a.m. today, April 10, 2007, at Alpine Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Jerry Turner officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Haven of Memories of Canton, Texas. She was born May 31, 1918, in Martins Mill, Texas, to Charles Brock and Ara McEachern. Tommye graduated from Martins Mill High School and East Texas State College, earning an elementary education degree. During college, she played the cello in the symphony. She taught first grade in Martins Mill, Texas, until she married Joe Stringer Sr., and they relocated to Dallas, where they raised their family. After moving to Longview and Farmington Hills, Michigan, they returned to Longview, where she had resided for the last 27 years. She was a member of Alpine Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the Ladies Evening Circle, along with many other church sponsored activities. She loved her church family. Other memberships included PTA of which she received a lifetime membership, Garden Club, Extension Club, Chrysanthemum Club,, and Sewing Club of which she served in a variety of positions. She cherished her family and stayed busy attending all their activities as long as her health permitted. She will also be remembered for her great love of cooking and spent numerous hours in her kitchen cooking for her family and friends. Her family enjoyed Sunday lunch together at her house every Sunday for more than 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard Stringer; sister, Shirley Black; and brothers, C.U. and Arden Brock. Survivors include her son, Joe Stringer Jr. of Oak Point; daughter, Judy Enders and husband Dave of Zionsville, Indiana; son, Randy Stringer and wife, Carla; daughter-in-law, Cathy Stringer; and special niece, Cindy Jones, all of Longview; grandchildren, Scott Stringer, Shelby Yeaple and husband, Jack, Michael and Elizabeth Enders, Jennifer Kauffman, and husband Jay, Allison and Melissa Stringer, Jordan, Jacob and Christian Stringer; great-grandchildren, Emma and Grace Yeaple. She also leaves behind many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Rehab at Home, Summer Meadows, Good Shepherd Medical Center doctors and staff, Heart'sWay Hospice and special caregiver, Claudette Watkins for helping us take care of her and love her.
