Sheehan, Hazel

Mass of Christian Burial for Hazel Sheehan will be 2 p.m. Monday, October 
30, 2006, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Mark Dunne officiating. 
A Rosary service will be 7 p.m. today, October 29, 2006, at the chapel of 
Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Road, with Father Mark Dunne officiating. 
Burial will follow in Rosewood Park Cemetery under the direction of Rader 
Funeral Home of Longview. Mrs. Sheehan passed away Saturday October 28, 2006, 
in Longview. As a young woman during World War II, Hazel worked in an aircraft 
parts plant in Southampton, England. She met her future husband, Jeremiah 
Sheehan, in Southampton and was married February 24, 1945. In 1946, she left 
England with her first child to be reunited with her husband in Midland, 
Pennsylvania. In 1953, the family, now four in number, moved to East Texas. 
Over the next four years, two more sons were born. She became a convert to 
the Catholic Church in 1954. The family moved to Longview in 1955, and joined 
St. Anthony Catholic Church. Hazel was active in many church functions. She 
was an officer in the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a proud member of 
the Daughters of the British Empire. Hazel's loves and talents were unending 
and included camping, fishing, gardening, ceramics, baking, sewing, not to 
mention her love for animals both domestic and wild. Many a bride had Hazel to 
thank for a handmade wedding dress or wedding cake. But her greatest love was 
gardening. If Hazel planted it, it grew and grew and grew. If you came to visit 
you knew you would be welcomed with a smile, fresh baked goods and a cup of tea. 
She was a volunteer at Longview Regional Hospital. She owned and operated her 
own ceramic business known as the Candlestick House. She is survived by her four 
sons, Michael Brendan Sheehan and wife, Mary, of Corpus Christi, Texas, Daniel 
John Sheehan of Longview, Texas, Jeremiah Brendan Sheehan of Longview, Texas, 
and Kevin Patrick Sheehan and wife, Kelly, of Longview, Texas; sister, Greta 
Fisher of Saugus, Calif.; brother, Brian Oppitz and wife, Winnie, of Havant, 
England; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was loved and will 
be missed by her brother and sister, her children and their spouses, her 
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with her many friends. Mom will be 
welcomed to heaven by her husband, Jeremiah, and we are certain he will have the 
kettle boiling for another great cup of tea. A memorial guestbook may be signed
