Shelton, Ben 

KILGORE -- Graveside services for Ben Shelton, 89, of Kilgore, will be 10 
a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. 
Jonathan Latham officiating. Mr. Shelton died Saturday, May 27, 2006, in 
Kilgore. He was born November 11, 1916, in Honey Grove, Texas. Mr. Shelton 
went to work for Magnolia Petroleum Company after he graduated high school 
in Honey Grove. He then served our country in the Army during World War II. 
Magnolia Petroleum Company allowed him to come back to his job, where he 
retired in 1972 from what was then known as Mobil Oil Company. He was a 
member of the Danville Masonic Lodge No. 101, where he held honorary 
degrees as a life member of the Grand Council of The High Priesthood for 
the State of Texas, a life member in The Order of The Silver Trowel for 
the State of Texas, a life member in the Order of The Eastern Star for the 
State of Texas, a past Master of Danville Lodge No. 101 A.F.& A. M., a past 
Most Excellent High Priest Chapter No. 449 Royal Arch Masons, a past Thrice 
Illustrious Master Kilgore Council No. 366 Royal and Select Masters, Knight 
Templar of Kilgore Commandery No. 104 Knights Templar, 32 Degree Mason Waco 
Consistory Scottish Rite Freemasons and Noble Sharon Temple Shrine of Tyler, 
Texas. Mr. Shelton was a member of the Forest Home Baptist Church and the 
American Legion. He enjoyed raising pigeons. Mr. Shelton is survived by a 
son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Alice Shelton of White Oak; two daughters, 
Ruth Smith and her husband, Ronny, of Jefferson, Texas, and Mary Hearn of 
Kilgore; six grandchildren, Allen Smith of Blanchard, Louisiana, William 
Frazier of Shreveport, Niesy Bevilacqua of Kountze, Texas, Jennifer Anderson 
of Kingsville, April Hearn of Tyler, Stormy Shelton of White Oak, and Wendy 
Sims of East Mountain; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and 
nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Shelton; two sisters, 
Mary Spinks and Loraine Cateno; and one brother, Louie Shelton. Memorial
