Rogers, Stella Virginia "Ginger"  
 	
Stella Virginia "Ginger" Rogers went to be with the Lord 
at age 92 on March 7, 2007. She was greeted by many loving 
family members, including an infant daughter; a husband; 
and many special friends. She was born January 25, 1915, 
in Brownwood, Texas, to farming parents, Estel and Fanny 
Vaughan. She shared her young life with two sisters, two 
brothers and loving grandparents in a wonderful Christian 
surrounding provided by her hard working parents in Big 
Sandy. After high school graduation, she attended beauty 
school and became a cosmetologist. She married in the early 
1940s and her husband was shipped overseas in the military 
to help fight during World War II. She then moved with her 
family to Orange, and worked as a welder in the ship channel. 
After her husband served three years in the service, upon his 
return, they made their home in Arkansas. In 1945, she gave 
birth to a precious little angel, Linda, who died at three 
days old. The following year, they moved to Longview, and in 
1947, she and her husband adopted a beautiful baby boy, David, 
who became the light of their lives. Virginia devoted herself 
as a full time homemaker, and she, with her family, had been 
members of Wesley United Methodist Church since 1952. She 
remained active in her church until her health began to decline 
at age 91 1/2. She loved her yardwork as she nurtured her many 
plants and flowers all through the year. She was proud to share 
her flowers and seedlings with anyone who would appreciate her 
passion. She had resided in her home in south Longview for more 
than 50 years and never had a desire to relocate to any other 
area of town because she loved her home so much. She was a 
creative china painter and a doll restorer, making clothes for 
them and placing them around her house for enjoyment. 
Throughout the years, she knitted and crocheted items that she 
could share with friends and family and she enjoyed all aspects 
of arts and crafts. Virginia will be missed for her encouragement, 
her sweet spirit and her kind words for and about everyone. She 
was a loyal prayer warrior for those whom she loved. Virginia is 
survived by one son, David Rogers of Longview; two grandsons, 
John Rogers of New York, and Larry Rogers of Argentina, South 
America; one sister, Lois Strawn and husband, Carl, of Longview; 
one brother, W.E. Vaughan and wife, Wanda, of Big Sandy; numerous 
nieces and nephews; and numerous close friends. She is also 
survived by an extended family, who loved her like a mother and 
grandmother, including two (twins) like daughters, Anita Hays of 
Mount Enterprise, and Rita Hanna of Dallas, along with their 
children and grandchildren. Last but not least, she is survived 
by her faithful schnauzer companion, Gretta, who provided comfort 
and joy for almost nine years. Graveside services will be held at 
1 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. 
Her body will be laid to rest beside her husband of 46 years, 
Oscar B. Rogers, who preceded her in death in 1986. Visitation 
with the family is planned from 6-8 p.m. this evening, March 9, 
2007, at Welch Funeral Home. An online registry may be signed at
