Richardson, Walter G. Services for Walter G. Richardson, 79, of Longview, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at Trinity Episcopal Church with Father Kevin Wittmayer officiating and Verger John C. Murphy assisting. Burial will follow in Memory Park. Mr. Richardson passed away Friday morning at a local hospital. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Walter was born October 23, 1927, in Houston, Texas, into a pioneer family with roots in San Augustine and Crockett. After graduating high school in Houston, and attending Texas A&M University, he joined the United States Coast Guard. Walter loved the Coast Guard and served all over the United States and proudly served in Vietnam. After 22 years, Walter retired from the Coast Guard, and he moved to Longview in 1971, and Longview, Texas, and Good Shepherd Medical Center was forever a better place. Walter loved volunteering with the Good Shepherd Auxiliary, and in 1984, was the first man named "Auxilian of the Year" with, at that time, over 4800 hours of service. He was a member of the executive board for several years and continued volunteering for countless more hours until his health recently declined. Walter loved staying physically fit and was a superstar member of the YMCA in Longview, where he loved being active in their membership drive for many years. He was a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where he was active in the Men of Trinity and led an usher team. Walter loved good BBQ and good boots and would travel miles to find the best of either. He was very fond of having his boots hand tooled in San Antonio. Walter loved and lived life to the fullest and he truly served all of humanity well. Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 906 Padon Street, Longview, TX 75601, or to the Good Shepherd Auxiliary, 700 E. Marshall, Longview, TX 75601.
