Parker Sr., James Ernest

Funeral services for James Ernest Parker Sr., 88, of 
Longview, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2006, 
at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Road, 
with James E. Parker Jr. officiating. Burial will follow 
in Rosewood Park Cemetery under the direction of Rader 
Funeral Home of Longview. He passed away Friday, 
December 22, 2006, in Longview, surrounded by his loving 
family. He was born April 7, 1918, in Kingston, Arkansas, 
to Millard G. and Lena Johnson Parker. James was a 
graduate of the Locust Grove High School in Locust Grove, 
Oklahoma. In 1940, he joined the Civilian Conservation 
Corps, and served there until 1941. He then joined the 
Army Air Force and served from 1942 until 1945, and was 
recalled for the Korean Conflict from 1951- 1953. He was 
a member of the Knights of Pythias. James worked for and 
managed Westbrook Auto Supply and all its successors for 
36 years. He was a member of the Post Oak Church of 
Christ and lived his life so as to please his Lord. He 
was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Lena 
Johnson Parker; five siblings, Art, Chester, Marjorie, 
Geraldine and Maurin; and his beloved grandson, Jason 
Powell. He is survived by his wife of 63-1/2 years, 
LaVerne Westbrook Parker of Longview; daughters and 
sons-in-law, Carol and David Powell of Henderson, Texas, 
and Gerry and Dwight Phifer of Jacksonville, Texas; son, 
Jimmy Parker of Longview; grandchildren, Jonathan Foster, 
Karen Powell Holland, Andrew Phifer, Morgan Parker and 
Adam Phifer; great-grandchildren, Kayley, Esau and Levi 
Powell, Jonathan Holland and Atticus Foster; and his 
faithful friend "Benji". Pallbearers will be Nathan 
Holland, Andrew Phifer, Adam Phifer, Wes Westbrook, J.R. 
Westbrook, Brian Westbrook, Joe Knox, Paul Goza and Kevin 
Burnley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Tommy Thomas, 
Dwight Loyd, Bill Baxter, Hal Orgain, Bud Hendrick and 
Floyd Faircloth; and all the special friends who walked 
for years with the "old man" with the little white dog. 
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 
Tuesday, December 26, 2006, from 6-8 p.m. Memorial 
contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy or 
ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Associations.
