Parr, Dorothy Spain Dorothy Spain Parr died October 3, 2006, at a Longview hospital in Longview, Texas. She and her twin brother, Dee, who preceded her in death, were born April 28, 1917, in Griffith's Switch near Waxahachie, Texas. She was the daughter of James Robert and Sarah Caroline "Carrie" Ford Spain who lived in the Waxahachie, Texas area and who were originally from Morgan County, Alabama. She married Travis Edwin Parr on June 17, 1934, in Corsicana, Texas, in the First Baptist Church parlor. They celebrated their 72nd anniversary this year. Mrs. Parr moved to several places with her husband when he worked for Sun Pipe Line. After moving to Longview in 1957, she was active in her son's activities in Pine Tree ISD, his sports, his church activities, the boy scouts, and any activity in which he participated. When they moved to Portland, Texas, in 1968, she began to sell real estate, where she was associated with Thompkins Young Realtors. She was named Realtor of the Year for San Patricio County and received many other honors. Mrs. Parr was an avid supporter of her grandchildren's activities who attended Pine Tree ISD. She taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school many times at the Greggton Baptist Church, where the Parrs were active members. She was still very active until a few weeks before her death. She had special friends in Longview and Portland who she continued to remain in contact with very often. She was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her husband, Travis Edwin Parr; her only son and daughter-in-law, Edwin and Cheryl Walters Parr; her grandchildren, Erica and husband, Ramiro Roel, all of Longview, Chris and Jackie Parr of Indianapolis Ind., and U.S. Marine Sgt. Brad Parr of Charleston S.C., who attends the Citadel; and her pride and joy of her life was her great-granddaughter, Gracie Spain Parr of Longview. She is also survived by one sister, Imo Jeane and husband, Don Clark of Cross Plains, Texas; and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Pickett Marie Parr of Sour Lake, and daughter, Phyllis Davis of Beaumont. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who will miss their "Aunt Dot" at the Spain Reunions. She was the oldest surviving sibling of 10 children who always continued to tell stories of her grandparents, parents, and siblings which all would enjoy. Services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2006, at the chapel of Lakeview Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bobby Moore officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2006, in the Mountain Peak Cemetery near Midlothian, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greggton First Baptist Church.
