Robert H. Martin, 87, of Longview, passed away October 2, 2006, at a local hospital. 
Robert was born October 7, 1918, in Rocky Mount, La., to Andrew and Rose Dolan Martin. 
Early in life, he moved to Abilene, and later to Livingston. He worked for the Civilian 
Conservation Corp. Robert moved with his family to Houston, where he was a longtime 
member and deacon at Texas Avenue Baptist Church. He worked for Goodyear Tire Co. and 
retired from J. Weingarten, Inc. in 1981. He retired to Kilgore to be close to his 
daughters and grandchildren. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Kilgore and 
sang in their Senior Adult Choir. His retirement found him very active. Robert enjoyed 
traveling with his family as well as his church family. He loved to go camping and see 
the country in his motor home. He was active in many senior citizen groups in the 
Kilgore and Longview area. He worked with his son-in-law, Alan Rowe, as a custom home 
builder and helped to build his own home in Kilgore. Robert enjoyed working in his 
shop with his tools. In the last few years, he moved to Longview, where he was a member 
and deacon of Judson Baptist Church. Robert was preceded in death by a daughter; Colleen 
Howell; a granddaughter, Ann Howell Chase; three brothers; and three sisters. He is 
survived by his wife, Nellie Boyd Martin of Longview; daughter and son-in-law, Robbye and 
Alan Rowe of Lake Cherokee; grandchildren, Jodie Carlson of Plano, and Kevin Rowe of Lake 
Cherokee; three great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Carlson of Plano, and B.J. Chase of 
Daniels, W.Va.; two sisters, Frankie Beagle of Olympia, Wash., and Mary Anderson of 
Centerville, Wash.; stepdaughter; Jane Weber of North Richland Hills; two step grandchildren 
and their spouses, Lisa and Tony Kobak of Clayton, Mo., and Paul and Calida Weber of Fort 
Worth; four step great-grandchildren, Victoria, Anthony Kobak, and Blake and Charles Weber; 
and a host of other family and friends. Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 
2006, at the chapel of Lakeview Funeral Home, with the Rev. Albert Murdock and the Rev. 
David Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. The family will 
receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday evening, October 4, 2006, at the funeral home. For
