Brashear, Charles Aubrey

Services for Charles Aubrey Brashear will be 2 p.m. Monday, 
January 8, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church in Longview, 
with the Rev. Jonathan Jehorek officiating under direction 
of Rader Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Grace Hill 
Cemetery. Mr. Brashear passed away on Friday, January 5, 
2007, after a lengthy illness. Born to Josephine Apsye 
Snead Brashear and Joseph Virgil Brashear on January 12, 
1917, in Jefferson, Texas, Mr. Brashear attended schools 
in Jefferson and Longview, graduating from Longview High 
School in 1934. After working as a surveyor on a seismograph 
crew, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940 and served in the 
96th Signal Battalion in the China- Burma-India Theater of 
World War II. He was honorably discharged as a captain at the 
conclusion of the war in 1945. That same year he married 
Gaynelle Russell on December 29th in Longview, Texas. He was 
employed with R. Lacy Inc. for many years as a gas engineer. 
He later established Brashear Production Service Inc., which 
he operated for more than 40 years until his retirement. He 
was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served 
as a deacon. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 404, The 
Sharon Shrine Temple, The Texas Society of Sons of the American 
Revolution and Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He was a member 
of The American Petroleum Institute for more than 30 years and 
also served as a committee member for Boy Scout Troop 201. He 
was a longtime member of Pinecrest Country Club and managed the 
Longview Hunting Club with his brother-in-law, Harry G. Mosley. 
Mr. Brashear was a loving husband, father and grandfather who 
will be truly missed by all who knew him. He was devoted to 
serving the needs of others while avoiding any recognition for 
his goodwill and generosity. He will be remembered for his 
steadfast love of family, God and country and the dignity in 
which he lived his life each day. The gentlemanly compassion 
and strong moral character he displayed will be remembered by 
all who knew him. He was indeed a man of valor. He is survived 
by is wife of 61 years and their children, daughter and son-in-law, 
Brenda and Eddie Modisett; and sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie 
and Becky Brashear and Joe and Melanie Brashear; grandchildren, 
Mary Jane Brashear and Allison Brashear of Dallas, and Chase 
Brashear and Aaron Brashear of Longview; nephews and their wives, 
John and Audrey Russell and Carroll and Barbara Russell, all of 
Baytown, and Gordon and Patti Mosley of Tyler; and nieces and 
husbands, Kem and J.J Scroggin of Longview and Harriet and John 
Luce of South Carolina. Pallbearers will be Chase Brashear, Aaron 
Brashear, Dr. John Russell, Gordon Mosley, J.J. Scroggin and Randy 
Brock. Honorary pallbearers will be Carroll Russell, D.A. Benton, 
George Joseph, John C. Murphy Jr., Max Wilson and Tom Stone The 
family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. today, January 7, 2007, at 
Rader Funeral Home. A memorial guestbook may be signed online at
