My Grandfather: Hulen Theo "Bo" Tackett
He was 13 years old when his father was struck and killed by a truck while crossing the street.
His mother was left to raise a house full of children on her own. He decided one less month to feed
would be less of a burden on his mother and had the bright idea to go to Hollywood to become a movie star.
So, "BO" jumped on a train and road the rails across country like an "Old Hobo." To say the least, it did not happen.
In 1940 he enlisted into the Mexia Texas National Guard with a Military Police Detachment.
In 1941 he married my grandmother.
In 1942 my mother was born. Upon the United States entering WWII, my grandfather was shipped over-seas.
In 1943 he was wounded in Combat, in Italy, to which he recieved the "Purple Heart."
In 1945 he was Honorably Discharged from active service.
Upon returning home, he worked many years in the Texas Oil Fields, as a Derrickman.
In 1946 He had a son, and in 1954 he had another daughter. This would conclude their three children.
In the 1960's he began a career with the Mexia State School, where he was a Patiant Transport Driver,
and eventually retired from there. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.
He was known to be quit a prankster and could really tell you all kinds of stories.
He would tell you stuff and make up things that would really make you laugh, until your sides hurt.
Everbody thought "BO" to be a little crazy, certainly silly, but he was loved and well liked by all.
In the 1990's with their failing health, he and my grandmother entered a nursing home in Mexia.
He was very unhappy there and with ill health he eventually stopped eating and gave into death.
I am sorry I was not informed of his passing until much later and missed his funeral.
I love you grandpa, and think about you all the time.
Randy R Jones.
Ronnie died very young from drinking to much.
