In regards to the Campbells. I wonder may have heard of Lilas (Campbell ) Johnson --husband Baxter. I think they lived there a long time and the two may have passed away only within the past 15 or 20 years, although I'm not sure. Lilas from what I'm told had the family history done for the campbells and one of her kids or kids kids may have a copy. I tried the Library on the phone twice to Crowell but only got recordings in the middle of the day and figure they're only open part time. I was hoping they had a copy of the book or manuscript in their catalog. I'm also trying to track down my great grandad and grandmother, where they ended up living for years after they got married in Comanche. His name is Richard (Charleston) Campbell and his wife is Mamie (Tunnell) Campbell, married in 1899 in Comanche on Oct 2. It may even be Crowell where they lived. He was a school teacher but was the superintendant of the county where they lived. They had 6 kids but two boys died in 1903 and 1906, leaving my grandfather Clarence Nelson Campbell, and three girls, Christine, Lilas and Francis. MY grandfather Clarence was born in 1900. Any help would be appreciated. I have a picture of the beautiful stone house in Crowell that the Johnsons lived in, they had a big St. Bernard dog, but I dont have an address, I just know that Baxter Johnson was in the oil business.--R.C Campbell was the superintendant of the school system in the county in which they lived. My great grandfather was Richard Charleston Campbell, who married Mamie (Tunnell) on Oct 2 1899 in Comanche Texas, and must have moved to another town shortly there-after. I'm searching for decendants of long time Crowell Texas residents Lilas(Campbell)) Johnson and her husband Baxter Johnson who are now deceased for the past 15-25 years. I believe that Mr. Baxter Johnson was in the oil business. I wish to communicate with them and attempt to locate a copy of the Campbell family history believed compiled by Lilas many years ago. My grandfather Clarence Nelson Campbell, born 1900 in Comanche Texas and died 1975 in Arlington Va, is her brother. I believe that Lilas and her husband had two children, one deceased the last we knew. Additional Campbell info : my great grandfather was Richard Charleston Campbell. He married Mamie (Tunnell) on Oct 2 1899 in comanche Texas but must have moved to another Texas town shortly there-after. They had 6 children, Clarence Nelson Campbell who lived most of his life in Arlington Va., two sons died , one in 1903 and another in 1906. Three daughters lived full lives, Lilas (Campbell Johnson of Crowell Tx. ,Christine (Campbell) Lowery who may have lived in Fort Worth or Bryan. Christines husband was in the printing andengraving business, and they had 2-3 girls. My grandads other sister is Francis (Campbell) -----? hoever we do not know her married but it is believed that she lived in the Fort Worth area. My grandfather Clarence Nelson Campbell and his wife Elizabeth had 6 kids 3 of each hoever all the men are deceased but the girls survive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Eric N Green

My great grandfather is Richard Charleston Campbell, who married Mamie (Tunnell) on Oct 2 1899 in Comanche Texas. It appears that they may have moved out of Comanche shortly there after. They had the following children: Lilas Campbell Johnson, Christine Campbell Lowery of I believe Bryan or Fortworth and Francis Campbell-----? don't know the married name, and my grandfather Clarence Nelson Campbell born 1900 Comanche and died 1975 in Arlington Va. Two sons of Richard and Mamie died in 1903 and 1906. The sisters had children and some may survive and there should be kids of the kids still around. My great grandfather Richard was a teacher and later a superintendant of the county in which they lived, I'm just not sure which one that is now, just that it was in Texas. Richard Campbell died in his 50's and his wife Mamie married two more times the last to a gentleman with the last name of Bell. My grandfather Clarence Nelson Campbell lived most of his life in Arlington Va married to my Grandmother Elizabeth(Metcalf) Campbell over 50 years They had 6- kids, 3-boys and 3-girls, the boys have all passed but the girls, Gloria, Bonnie, and Jean all survive. Anyone who has any light to shed on these folks please contact me at codger@bellsouth.net or please write me at; 7740 Southside Blvd apt# 2107 Jax.Fl. 32256. and thank you, Eric Green

My daughter-law's grandfather, Ervin MADDOX married Bernice GORDON. She was born 28 February 1885 in Vernon, Wilbargor Co. TX. Bernice was the daughter of William L. GORDON and Emma E. MORRIS who resided in Lampasas Co. in 1880. There are familylove letters from William L. Gordon who was residing in Taylor, Williamson Co. TX. He was going to law school in Georgetown. They married 30 June 1880 in Lampasas. They evidently moved around and resided in Vernon, Willbarger Co. Quanah, Hardeman Co. and Margaret and Crowell. There was a newspaper clipping without a date, stating that William L. GORDON had died and a brother James GORDON was going to Margaret and take his body back to Georgetown. William L. GORDON was a Judge in Margaret or in Foard Co. Family tale is that he was shot by a disgruntled person. I would like to find the newspaper clipping about the incident. Can you give me any information about newspapers that were published in that era? He had a son Robert and the daughter, Berenice who was born in 1885. They were probably young children when he was killed because she remarried and had two more children. I would appreciate any info about newspapers. Helen Humburg Brown, Houston, TX
