Bryan - Martin Family

Sidney Rufus (S.R.) Bryan and Rev. Robert Martin came to Fisher County in 1886. Sidney R. Bryan's wife was Katura Martin, daughter of Robert Martin. Rev. Robert Martin's wife was Indiana Dillard. They moved to Fisher County Texas from Louisana to get away from malaria, to have free education for the children and leave worn-out cotton plantations. Children of S.R. and Katura Bryan who came to Texas from Louisiana were: Mabel, Cora, Ruth, Sidney, and Gena. Clarence was born after they arrived in Fisher County. S.R. and and Tura Bryan are buried in the Belvieu Cemetery at Rotan, Texas. Indiana Martin is buried in the Pyron Cemetery. Rev. Robert Martin moved back to Louisiana after his wife's death. The Hobbs post office was started in the Martin house. Rev. Martin helped organize the Roby Baptist Church and the Claytonville Church.

I am the daughter W. J. Bryan, son of Sidney William Bryan, son of S.R. Bryan.
