de SAUCEDO, CARMEN TRUJILLO
was received at the Lord's gates on June 27, 2001. She was surrounded by her four loving and devoted children at the time of her death. We ask that you keep them in your prayer at this time. All of us will always remember her for her joy of life and her deep and abiding faith in God. She was sustained in life with all of God's creation, the song of birds, flowers, beautiful music, family and friends, delicious meals, her pan de levadura, biscochos. She leaves all who knew her with many wonderful memories. Above all, she was nurtured by her profound knowledge of God in her life. We are comforted by the knowledge that she is now in paradise where she lacks for nothing, where God's love abounds, where she is whole, and where the challenges that she confronted here on Earth served as the instruments that drew her to God. Above all, we are comforted knowing that in God's heaven her gardens will flourish, the fragrance of her flowers will fill heaven with new aromas and she will be able to dance and sing and rejoice to new music. MERAZ, SAMUEL SR,
husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather of noble character, died peacefully in his home on July 19, 2001. Sam was born in Juarez, Chihuahua, on September 2, 1908, to Isabel Lechuga and Juan Meraz. At the age of six, he immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized citizen. His childhood years were spent in El Paso, Texas. Sam married the love of his life, Luz Bustillos, in 1934 and became a self-employed businessman and real estate broker. During his successful career, he owned several small businesses including a fish market and two hardware stores. In his younger years, he was involved in various civic activities such as serving as President of the Lions Club. He was also active in LULAC and the Optomist Club. In addition, he pursued his interest in music by singing publicly at various functions in the El Paso and Juarez areas. Music was Sam's passion and gift. He taught himself how to play the piano and to sing all types of music. However, he most enjoyed singing opera and listening to famous opera singers. His children would wake in the morning to hear their father singing pieces from the likes of Mario Lanzo and Caruso. He attended Jesus Chapel East for many years. Sam will be forever remembered by his family for his adventuresome spirit and positive outlook on life. He never let adversity stand in the way of the goals he set - he forged ahead no matter how difficult circumstances became. Hard work and integrity were qualities he valued. Business associates knew they could depend on his handshake, his family knew they could depend on his word. He combined all of these wonderful traits with a keen intellect and sharp wit. His family and friends enjoyed hearing his melodious laughter. Above all, he loved his family deeply and demonstrated that love on a daily basis. Sam will be sorely missed by all of those who loved him. His family thanks God for his long, full, happy and healthy life. Sam is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Luz, who died in 1996.
