a former flight attendant and longtime advocate for the disabled, died Tuesday (Aug. 29, 2000). She was well known at City Hall for consistently urging the City Council and Sun Metro to improve bus service for the disabled. She was 56 and a longtime El Paso resident. Cordova, Fernando Luis “Fernie”
an administrator for the El Paso Independent School District and a Korean War Air Force veteran, died Wednesday (Aug. 30, 2000). He worked for the school district for 30 years and served with the 29th Bomb Division in the Air Force. He was 69 and a lifelong resident of El Paso. Schuster, Dr. Franklin Phillip Jr. "Kiko",
of El Paso died Tuesday (Sept. 12, 2000). He was a third-generation physician in El Paso. He founded and ran the first community mental health center in El Paso at R.E. Thomason General Hospital and was instrumental in establishing the El Paso Mental Health Center and the El Paso Psychiatric Center. He was an advocate for the mentally ill and received the Pioneers in Family Therapy Award. He was an associate professor at Texas Tech School of Medicine and was a past president of the Texas Psychiatric Association. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Elizabeth "Cita"; his four sons, Franklin P. Jaime, Herman
an employee of the El Paso Independent School District and a decorated Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2000). He worked for the school district's transportation department for 10 years and was recognized for serving as a role model for students. He was 50 and had been an El Paso resident since 1954. Survivors include his wife, Bernice T.; his son, Herman Jaime Jr.; his stepdaughter, Bernadine Muela; his parents, Ismael and Mae Jaime; his brothers, Ismael C. Jaime and George Jaime; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday in Kaster-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home, with rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Blessed Sacrament Church.
