a retired El Paso businessman in the petroleum industry and a former deputy sheriff, died Monday (Feb. 28, 2000). He was also an Army veteran. He was 79 and a longtime El Paso resident. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee; his sons, Art Howard Jr. and Charles Howard; his daughters, Barbara Barren and Carol Danforth; and six grandchildren. 99 longtime Lower Valley farmer and businessman died Tuesday at his home in Clint. He was 99. A rosary service will be in the San Lorenzo Catholic Church in Clint at 7 p.m. Sunday. Funeral Mass will be in the church at 9 a.m. Monday, followed by burial in the Clint Cemetery. Hernandez was born in Torreon, Mexico, and came to the San Elizario-Clint area in 1920. He was retired from Spreckles Sugar. Hernandez was an active member of San Lorenzo Catholic Church for the past 70 years. Hernandez was preceded in death by his wife, Eloisa, and his daughter, Porfiria "Pila" Beltran. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Pedro and Julieta Hernandez; daughters, Angela Rodriguez and Irma Hernandez; son and daughter-in-law Vern "Chavel" and Rosemary Beltran; 20 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
