Notes for George Walshe, Sr.:
Lockhart's Infantry Battalion was first organized in 1864 with nine companies. It was increased to a regiment and designated as the 1st Infantry Regiment, Reserves, in August 1864. (Co. "F" of the Battalion was transferred to the 8th Alabama (Ball's) Cavalry Regiment.) When Lockhart's Battalion was increased to a regiment in August 1864, it was designated as the 1st Alabama Infantry Regiment Reserves. Field Officers: Lt. Col. Harrison C. Lockhart; Major James Lafayette Davidson [1837-1896]
Purchase of stock in GULF, COLORADO AND SANTA FE RAILWAY COMPANY. Certificate No. 69, for 10 shares, was issued Nov. 5, 1875, to Folts & Walshe, who were cotton factors on the Strand. Alexander J. Folts was at one time County Treasurer for Colorado Co.
A cotton factor was a middleman between a planter and buyer. He was employed by the farmer to sell his cotton.
