Tribute to

Milton A. Beard

Milton Beard was about 80 years old and enlisted in the 4th Regt Tennessee Infantry early in the war, Confederate service and we understand he was born in Tennessee.  He served to the close of the war.  He came to Texas soon after and bought a home near the present town of Boz - which remained his residence and home till the close of his life.  At the time of his death he was spending some time in Western Texas with a daughter whose health was not good hoping the climate would restore her health.

His death came without warning.  He had just brought in a bucket of water from the well for his daughter and dropped dead - death attributed to heart failure.  His body was buried near his old home in the Bethel grave yard.  Billie Stevenson, a life time friend of our departed comrade, said in his writing, "He was a mighty good man."It is written, " A Good Man is better than precious Ointment." Their silver cords are broken the pitcher broken at the fountain.  Their spirits have returned to God.

They have fought their last battles, life's bitten stings are over.  May their souls rest in peace and quiet till the reveille shall announce the dawn of the everlasting day.

Milton Beard was born in Tennessee . He enlisted in the 41st Tenn Inf. and served until the close of the war.  His home was in Ellis County, Tex. but he died at the home of his daughter in West Texas in 1914 age 80 years.
