Announcement from Sylvia Smith, President,

Ellis County Genealogical Society

Recently, Ellis County Genealogical Society's Board of Directors voted to include under its umbrella the newly formed group African-American History of Ellis County as a Special Interest Group (SIG). This group lead by Easter Butler Fleming and Sylvia Smith meet on the 4th Saturday each month at 10:00AM in the Ellis County Museum. At present their focus is to list names of families, businesses, schools, churches and organizations of the past. Oral history interviews with the eldest African-American citizens in Waxahachie, Ennis, Italy, Milford and other communities is another priority for the group. Ultimately, this information will be shared and published in "Searchers and Researchers."

Art

Crafts (quilts, etc.)

Establish African American Museum

Get State recognition for documented persons, groups, buildings, etc. as developed

Publish documented history

Put documented information on Ellis County's TXGenWeb site, and Sims Library
