News of the day

J.G. House is moving his house goods today to the new Cummiskey cottage on East Gonzales St. The house near the school building which Mr. House is vacating will be occupied by Sam Green and family.

Dr. Brewington and wife have arrived in the city from Stamford and will make their home in Yoakum. Dr. Brewington is a dentist and has taken offices over the Shropshire Drug store.

C.C. Tribble has let the contract for the erection of four modern five-room bungalows, three in Park Heights addition, near the H. Tribble home and one on East Hill on Rose St.

Mr. J.S. Browne has sold his home and rent cottage adjoining, located on Orth and Duke Streets to Herman Seecamp.

Mr. J.J. Jaresh has closed a deal with Mr. Herman Dreyer by which the latter becomes owner of Mr. Jaresh's fine home in the Eastern portion of the city.

Charlie Kennard has opened a horse-shoeing shop in the little building at the rear of the State Bank.

Mrs. M.E. Hood has purchased from .H. Boulware lots 3 and 4, block 300, Merriam addition.

Harlem Morgan has begun a business course at Baldwin's Business College.

Miss Lillie Ploeger has accepted a position in the office of Judge Wimberly.

Roy Hamil is all-round office man at the Souther Marble and Stone Co.

Miss Milla Caraway is the new office lady at the People's Grocery.

Miss Alma Hillman is keeping accounts at McMaster's Meat Market on Grand Avenue.

Assistant Post Master Rudolph Hagan has severed connection with that position. Mr Hagan has been employed at the Post Office for the past several years.

The bids were opened for the erection of the Catholic Church were: Chas. Fuess& Son, Bolton & Stephenson, Bailey Mills Company. Bids went to Fuess. The church will be built on the corner of Orth & Schrimscher and was designed by Architect J.Henry Yentzen.

Weddings

Martha Stephenson and Edward Archer were married Saturday.

Births

Dick Ponton and wife of Ezzell have a new girl at their home.

Deaths

Master Vernon Plimsall, the 5 year old child, who was reported some three weeks ago to have meningitis, died Sunday.

News of the Day

The Baby show at the High School Campus was a big success. Prettiest girl between 2-4 years old , Gladys Barnett, daughter of Mr. amd Mrs. J.O. Barnett. Handsomest boy between 2-4 year old, Harry Mohrmann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mohrmann. Prettiest baby between 6 months and 2 years, Dorothy Mae Turner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Turner. Prettisest bay under six months, Bennie Trebig. Jolliest baby under 4 years, Ora Bdell Welch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Welch. The finest pair of twins, Masters Arthur George and Alfred Knolle Hermann, sons of Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Hermann.

City Marshall T.J. Burkett and family of Shiner have decided to located in Yoakum. He has taken a lease on the J.E. Miller place on Hochheim Street and will engage in the Bottling Works business. Messrs. S.A. Carnes & Son are having erected a house on Hugo Street, next to Plka & Richmond's Tin and Plumbing Shop for Burkett.

Mr. Sam Taylor became owner of 150 acres of the J.J. Kutach Dairy farm out four miles southeast of town and Mr. Kutach becomes owner of Mr. Taylor's fine 100 acre tract near town.

The W.L. Johnston cottage at the rear of the Woodsmen building is being moved out on May Street near the residence of Mr. John Gilbert. This another of the old landmarks in the business section that is being taken way to make room for a more pretentious and substantial structure.

The beautiful new home of J.J. Jaresh on West Grand Ave. has been completed and dhe moved this family to the new residence yesterday.

A deal has been made in which T.M. Dodd, Jr. becomes owner of the W.A. Moore place on Hugo Street just across from the High School building.

The brick work on the big tower of the Catholic Church is nearly finished.

Mr. Tribble makes a suggestion that is worthy of consideration and even adoption. It is to have in Yoakum an "Old Settlers Day". Those who have lived 20 years and longer in this section could spend a most delightful day here relating experiences of the past and telling what they saw when they first came here. Mr. Tribble suggests as the day for this celebration somewhere around July20.

Beulah Leggett and Mr. Goodall were married May 19.
Laura Collins and Emil Wacker were married Monday.
Kate Brewster and Vernon Ware were married last week.
Ellen Ballou and George Stobart were married May 20.

Deaths

Mrs. A.J. Wheeler died at the family home Friday.

Weddings

The marriage of Mary Krauskopf and Joe Prasek was celebrated at the new Catholic church this morning at 9 A.M. The couple are residents of Sweet home.

Miss Willie L. Sistrunk and Volley Tolbert were married at the home of the bride's parents last night. The groom is employed in the mill department of the Sap Shop.

Dora Hillman and William Stevens were married Monday, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Scharrack [Sharrock], who live about one mile west of Yoakum on the Hochheim road.

Births

Mr. Oscar Henry is all smiles with another young Miss at his house. Mother and babe doing nicely. J.E. Lay, Jr. was the attending physician.

Deaths

Again has the death angel visited out city and this time his blighting touch was laid on the brow of Mr. George Washington Houchins, one of the oldest and most prominent citizens.
