This one half acre tract of land is a part of the 160 acres deeded to Franz Heinrich Spellmann and his wife Anna Margaretta by the State of Texas in 1868 and was dedicated by them to their descendents, in perpetuity, as a place for the burial of their dead. This grant was futher confirmed by a deed dated June 25, 1907 and recorded in the DeWitt County court house on September 24, 1017.
This marker stands on the exact spot where grew the large liveoak tree, marked S, mentioned in the recorded deed as a bearing tree in the tracing the boudaries of the plot.
