OILFIELD WORKERS IN CRANE COUNTY AS LISTED IN THE 1930 CENSUS
{Which are not listed afterwards in more detail as possible residents of Gulf or Humble housing}
     Since the census taker numbered dwellings 1-147 north of the East West Road, then started over, numbering houses 1-183 located south of the East West Road, containing 184-314 without designating their location, houses with N preceding the number refers to houses north of the East West Road, and houses preceded by S refers to houses south of the East West Road.  Since all emloyees are male, except one, sex is not designated.  Age will be followed by marital status: example, 28s, 30m, 40d, 50wd-meaning, single, married, divorced, or widowed.  The number of persons in the household, excluding the worker himself, will follow.  If there is no number following, even if the worker is married, the worker lived alone.  If a number follows a single, divorced, or widowed worker, other members of their family lived with him, or he lived with them.  If a specific occupation is listed it will be shown.  Otherwise, the census only states, "Workers, Oilfield," and need not be repeated, except for clarification when multiple workers resided in the same household.   If a resident owned his home, O will precede the value given the dwelling.  If the resident was renting, R will proceed the amount of monthly rent.  When several oilfield worker's dwellings are numbered consecutively, and their monthly rents are the same, or nearly so, they may be employees living in company housing.   When the rent is marked "Unk" it means the census taker did not know or thought they paid no rent.  Therefore, a series of consecutive dwellings marked "Unk" may indicate a company bUnkhouse, a hotel or rooming house, or several tents in one location.  When the numbers are not consecutive, it means residents of other occupations were in that location also; therefore, more likely to be a privately owned hotel, rooming house, or tents in the same location also; therefore, more likely privately owned hotel, rooming house, or tents in the same location.  Anytime the writing is unclear or questionable, a "?" is inserted.  Since the census taker had to write small, the author may have mistakenly misspelled any name, even if he shows no question mark.

House numbers in bold print appear to be outside of the city limits.
