The Gainesville Daily Register Sports Editor, Mike Pender had this to say about the Valley View @ Collinsville game.
Now down to the second gem game of the week and we turn to Valley View and Collinsville. When the year started this game was supposed to be for the out-right District 17-A championship. But oh, what a tangled web these loop team have weaved.
The Eagles come in perfect in league action, while the Pirates have one blemish.
I got a chance to talk to Valley View head coach Mark Davidson the other day and he said he was excited about this matchup.
Collinsville sports one of the most elusive runners in the loop in Jamie Montoya. The Eagles have a defensive unit that is finally coming around.
Get this. Muenster gets first-and-a-foot on Valley View last week. And all the Eagles did was hold them scoreless. The only problem was that Valley View needed three fourth quarter touchdowns for the win.
Look for this one to be one of those sleeper games. It may start out with one or the other taking a quick lead, but look for Valley View, who is a 3-point favorite to find a way to win this one VALLEY VIEW 26, COLLINSVILLE 17.

COLLINSVILLE The battle of the big dogs in District 17-A turned
out to be just that as Valley View and Collinsville struggled to a 33 33 tie
Friday night.
The Eagles move their overall record to 5-2-1 and 2-0-1 in district, while the Pirates are now 6-1-1 and 1-1-1 in loop action.
Valley View clearly won the rushing battle as they accumulated 352 yards on the ground behind Lance Morris, who rushed seven times for 150 yards and Larry Morris, who had 93 yards on 15 carries.
But Collinsville quarterback Trent Cox also had a good night. He finished 13 of 33 for 253 yards and two touchdowns.
Collinsville took an early 7-0 lead after the first quarter of action when Cox hit Vannoy for a 15-yard score, then Michael Malanda booted the PAT. But Valley View was able to knot the score at 7-7 when Larry Morris scored from 1-yard out and Lance Morris added the kick.
As time ran out in the second quarter, Malanda added a 37-yard field goal to give Collinsville a 10-7 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, the Eagles took their first lead of the game when Lance Morris scored on a 57-yard run, but the Pirates countered with a 22-yard score from Dorey Jack Lewter.
Valley View took the lead again at the end of the third quarter when quarterback Jeremy Tipps found paydirt from 3-yards out to give the Eagles a slim 20-17 lead.
Lance Morris accounted for a 55-yard score in the fourth, then the Eagles added another before Cox scored on a 3-yard run and then found Vannoy again for a 27-yard touchdown strike.
Cox then added the 2-point run to tie the game.
Valley View will next host Era, while the Pirates travel to Saint Jo on Friday.
