Mr. and Mrs. Carl Poff were hired as teachers to begin the fall 1953 school term.  They moved into the newly remodeled teacherage with their two children, Karla and Johnny Poff, who were in the eighth grade.  Mrs. Poff taught the “little room”, first four grades and Carl Poff was the teacher for fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades or the ‘big room’.  They were excellent teachers, devoted to their profession and they became active in the community activities and members of the Bearhead Baptist Church.  They were to spend the next eight years at Sivells Bend School encouraging and maintaining an exceptional quality of education for the thirty to forty students.
