Coleman, Texas

Legal Description:  Lot No. 8 of the G. M. Gray Subdivision of
Block Nos. 19 and 20 of Clow's First Addition to the Town of Coleman

On the 1923 map, a vacant lot is shown at what would become 707 West Walnut Street.  Most of the two block square area bounded by West Walnut Street, South Nueces Street, West Mesquite Street, and Fifth Avenue appears to have belonged to the Grier Gray house, located at what would become 601 West Walnut Street.

"In 1929, Patrick R. Warren and his wife, Ima Gray (Woodward) Warren lived at 707 West Walnut Street and owned the property.  Rooming at 707 West Walnut Street were Levi Rouche, and his wife Doll.  He was a driller.  Also rooming at this address was Elgean Shield, who owned Coleman Motor Company."   (Coleman City Directory, 1929 - Hudspeth.)

Ima Gray (Woodward) Warren's sister, Maurese (Woodward) Sawyer, and her husband, Langdon P. "Don" Sawyer lived next door at 705 West Walnut Street.  Grier Gray was their grandfather.  These houses were built on what was originally the property of Grier Gray.
