On the 1923 map, a vacant lot is shown at what would
become 707
West Walnut Street. Most of the two block square
area bounded by
West Walnut Street, South Nueces Street, West Mesquite
Street, and Fifth
Avenue appears to have belonged to the Grier Gray house,
located at what
would become 601 West Walnut Street.
"In
1929, Patrick R. Warren and his wife, Ima Gray
(Woodward) Warren lived at 707 West Walnut Street
and owned the property. Rooming at 707
West Walnut Street were Levi Rouche, and his wife
Doll. He was a
driller. Also rooming at this address was
Elgean Shield, who owned
Coleman
Motor Company." (Coleman City Directory,

Gray (Woodward) Warren's sister, Maurese
(Woodward) Sawyer, and her husband, Langdon P.
"Don" Sawyer lived next door at 705 West Walnut
Street. Grier Gray was their
grandfather. These houses were built on what
was originally the property of Grier Gray.
On July 1, 1954, Dr. R. F. and Verla Joyce Kemper, his wife, took possession of the property and house at 707 West Walnut Street, having purchased it from P. J. Reeves. The plat in the abstract indicated that this lot is 62 1/2 feet east and west, facing north on Walnut Street, and is 132 feet in depth, there being 5 feet off this 132 feet for utility easements. The abstracts indicate the property and house was owned in 1946 by Alice Reeves, mother of P. J. Reeves. Dr. Kemper and family had moved to Coleman from Dallas, Texas, where they lived at 2831 Cherrywood Street. Both Dr. R. F. Kemper and Verla Joyce Kemper lived out their lives in Coleman. east and north sides - about 1958
