In 1923, a vacant lot occupied what would become 309 West Walnut Street.
This address does not appear to have been occupied by any other dwelling
prior to this time.
"In 1929, Charles M. Prater,
and his wife Olive V., were residing at 309 West Walnut Street. They
were the owners of this dwelling. He was the manager of South
Texas Lumber Company. Olive Prater was a deputy county clerk
at the Court House. Also
living at this address was Maxwell Prater, a student. Also residing
at this address were Samuel B. Miller, and his wife Eleanor. He was
a mechanic at Standard Battery Company." (Coleman
City Directory, 1929 - Hudspeth.)
Note on the 1930 map an alternate address of 307 is still being used,
and on the 1948 map, both addresses are given.
