"Continuing with service stations of 1948, the Lee R. Craig Service Station, located at 501 East Walnut Street, was built by Otto Schick in 1922.  Schick’s Bakery was located on the same lot, but was destroyed by fire in October 1947, not having been in use for several years.  The filling station had been the Hester Service Station in early 1944, and the Smith Brothers Service Station, operated by Leon D. and Houston Smith in late 1944, and Bailey’s Texaco Service Station by February 1947.  This became the Woodard Service Station by 1950.  Jackie Hammonds owned this Texaco Station in 1962."  (Looking Backwards, 1940-1980, by Ralph Terry page 166.)  (Note from Ralph Terry:  the above, in red, is incorrect.  Otto Schick, who lived at 409 East Walnut Street built a bakery to the east of his home and a gasoline service station on the southeast corner at 417 East Walnut Street.)
