35 Additional Houses To Be In South Park

Approval for the construction of twenty-eight new houses has been received and actual work slated to start April 20th according to Dewey Collins who has the general contract for the building.  These houses are to be built on Hollywood and Miami Streets and are being built by the Brady real estate firm of Sheffield and Cobb.  In addition to above houses the same firm announced this week they will also build thirty-five houses in the south park addition, on what is known as the Gilliam-Lewallen property.  These houses are to be built of concrete tile, hardwood floors and will be five and six rooms in size.  Present plans are to offer them to veterans at a low down payment of from $100 to $150, and monthly payments ranging from $30 to $35 per month.  Blue prints and specifications of the first twenty-eight houses are now in the hands of Contractor Collins and subcontractor W. L. Jones.    (Coleman Democrat-Voice, Thursday, March 20, 1947, page 1.)
